World Earth Day (Mrs Duckett)
🌍 World Earth Day – 22 April
💡 Theme: Protect Our Planet
Today is World Earth Day, a global moment to think about how our everyday choices shape the future of our planet. This year’s focus encourages us to look at how we use energy, reduce waste, and protect nature here in Scotland and around the world.
♻️ What you can do today:
🚶♂️ Choose to walk or cycle when you can
🗑️ Reduce waste by reusing or recycling
🌱 Look after local green spaces
💧 Save water and switch off lights when not needed
📚 Learn something new about climate and sustainability
🌦️ Small actions add up. Every choice helps create a cleaner, greener future for everyone.
🌱 Let’s make Earth Day count.
The Wealth of Nations Day (Mrs Duckett)
📘 250 Years Since The Wealth of Nations
👤 Adam Smith (1723–1790)
Today marks 250 years since the publication of The Wealth of Nations (1776), the most famous work by Adam Smith, the Scottish thinker often called the “father of modern economics.” Smith was born in Kirkcaldy, making this anniversary especially significant here in Scotland.
💭 Why it matters:
📚 Smith explored how economies grow and how societies can organise work and trade
💷 His ideas helped shape modern economic thinking used by governments worldwide
🌍 He argued that people’s choices, work, and cooperation all contribute to a nation’s prosperity
🔎 Key ideas from the book:
🧩 Division of labour — breaking tasks into smaller parts increases efficiency
🔄 Markets and exchange — people trade goods and services to meet each other’s needs
🏛️ Role of government — supporting justice, education, and infrastructure
🏴 A Scottish legacy:
Adam Smith’s work continues to influence how we understand money, trade, and society today.
Word of the Week (Mrs MacKenzie)

Rights of the Fortnight (Mrs Young)
Article 13: Sharing Thoughts Freely
Fact: You can express yourself in a number of ways – orally by telling people what you think, in writing or even visually using drawings as a creative outlet to show who you are as a person.
