Last night, Rory G., S5 took to the stage at Rothes Hall for the Fife heat of Scottish Young Musician of the Year, performing to a full audience of friends, family, fans, music teachers and instructors and VIPs from Fife Council including Chief Executive Ken Gourlay, Donnie Macleod and Angela Logue.
Rory showed absolute nerves of steel. He was an inspiration from the moment he stepped on stage and then he rocked his socks off with a blistering performance of “Nemesis” by Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. It was bold, brave and brilliant! He did everyone so proud.
Opportunities like this are transformative. Performing at this level gives young musicians:
- A platform to showcase their talent and hard work
- The chance to learn from professional adjudicators and experienced educators
- A real sense of belonging in Scotland’s vibrant music community
- The confidence that comes from stepping into the spotlight and delivering under pressure
Events like Scottish Young Musician of the Year remind us why music education matters so deeply. It builds resilience, creativity, teamwork, discipline and joy — qualities that shape young people far beyond the stage. Rory’s performance is a shining example of what happens when talent meets opportunity and is supported by dedicated teachers, families and a school community that values the arts (thank you so much everyone!).
