We hosted an exciting STEM Speed Dating event – and it was nothing short of inspiring. Our S3 pupils showed incredible maturity, respect, and enthusiasm as they rotated through meaningful conversations with representatives from a diverse range of organisations. The energy in the room was electric with people exploring real-world STEM careers, asking thoughtful questions, and thinking seriously about their futures.
From the very start, it was clear that our S3 were up for the challenge. They asked great questions, listened attentively, and demonstrated genuine curiosity about what professionals do in their day-to-day work. Many spoke about how eye-opening the experience was — discovering roles they had never considered, and realising just how many pathways exist in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
We were delighted to welcome a wide variety of organisations, spanning defence, telecommunications, higher education, digital services, and local government. These included:
- Aero Space Kinross
- Agilio
- Agrico
- Amazon Web Services
- AtkinsRéalis
- Babcock
- BAE Systems
- Cavendish Nuclear (Babcock)
- Exxon
- Fife Council
- Leonardo
- Natwest
- Neos Networks
- Photon Force
- Q2 Solutions/IQVIA
- University of Dundee
- University of Edinburgh
- University of St. Andrews

Thank you to all these partners — your involvement made the event rich, relevant, and relatable.
Some of the key themes and takeaways that emerged during the day:
Pupils realised that STEM isn’t just one thing. There are so many roles — from nuclear engineering to telecommunications, from academic research to financial tech. Several students said they had never imagined working for a company like Leonardo or AWS before.
Industry representatives shared honest stories: what their workdays look like, how they got started, the challenges they face, and the real rewards. These weren’t abstract careers — they were real, attainable, and inspiring.
The structured but informal nature of the event allowed students to make quick but meaningful connections. They learnt how to introduce themselves, follow up, and leave a strong impression — valuable skills for their future academic or career journeys.
Everyone noted how smoothly the event ran. The rotation system worked perfectly, timings were respected, and conversations remained productive throughout. It was a real credit to our students’ maturity and engagement.
A heartfelt thank you to all the organisations and professionals who gave up their time to come in, and speak so warmly and honestly to our pupils. Your involvement not only showed students what real STEM careers look like — but it showed them that their questions matter, their ambitions are valid, and their futures are full of possibility. We’re looking forward to next year!
