Culture Month Celebration (Mrs Gibb)

Ciao everyone.

To celebrate Italy, we’ll be hosting a celebratory event in the War Memorial area at the start of lunchtime on Thursday. Pop along, say “Ciao” and collect an Italian-inspired goodie!

School Show (Ms Bruce)
If you’d like to get involved and be part of our next school musical, join us today after school 3.30-4.30pm in the Music Department. We haven’t yet decided what the show will be and for the next few weeks will be trying out a few different options, it’s not too late to get involved. Please see Ms Bruce or Mr Wilkie if you have any questions.

Wellbeing Wednesday (Miss Akers)
This month’s Wellbeing Wednesday theme is ‘Sleep More’. Sleeping more is important for brain development, concentration, rest, and repair. You can do this by sticking to a routine, reducing screen use, and not snacking before bed.

More information is in the Home Economics Corridor or has been shared via the school’s social media.

Christmas Fayre – Raffle Donations (Events Team & Mr. Caldwell)
We’re excited to announce the Kirkcaldy High School Christmas Fayre on Tuesday, 16th December 2025, and we’d love your help to make it extra special! We’re putting together a festive raffle to raise funds for local charities, and would be so grateful for any donations – big or small – whether it’s a gift, voucher, or larger prize. Every contribution helps us create a brilliant selection of prizes, and donors will be warmly acknowledged at the event. Donations can be dropped off in D10. You could also email Mr Caldwell, Mr Walsh and or Miss Samfat. Thank you for your generosity and support – we can’t wait to see you at the Fayre! 🎄

S5-S6 Winter Formal Dance (Miss Webster)
The winter formal tickets are back on sale – tickets to be purchased from the office £5 each.
Dates are: Thursday 11th December 7pm – 10pm.

Culture Month (Mrs Gibb)
Continuing our celebration of the different cultures and languages within our school, we say goodbye to August and to China, and “Hiya” or “Ciao” to September and to …Italy!

When greeting staff and each other, instead of saying “Hiya”, please say Ciao. The link to hear it pronounced is:  click here to hear it

Facts about Italy for this week,

Ancient Romans invented many of these things we rely on – including the wheel. Just imagine, no wheels, no bus, no school!

Word of the Week (Mrs MacKenzie)

Benign

Definition: Benign describes something that does not cause harm or damage. In medical contexts it is used to describe something that does not threaten life or health (as in “a benign tumor”). Additional meanings include “mild and pleasant” (as in “benign weather conditions”) and “showing kindness and gentleness” (as in “a benign outlook”).

Example: The project required that we manage some inconvenient but ultimately benign conditions.

Rights of the Fortnight (Mrs Young)
Article 24 :  Health, Water, Food Environment
Fact:  In KHS this right is met in several ways in a number of ways including: Free water in the drinking fountains, free food in home economics to cook and eat and free extra-curricular sports club and subsidized breakfast club in school.
