Kirkcaldy High School had some of our young people, old and new, attending the most recent Springboard Summer School Programme a few weeks ago and we were privileged to receive an invite to attend their graduation on Tuesday this week.
The Springboard Charity helps people of all ages and backgrounds improve their career potential in hospitality, leisure and tourism – especially young people in education and adults who experience barriers to employment or who are turning to work. The Summer Kickstart programmes have been made possible through the generous support of the Savoy Educational Trust and Scottish Children’s Lottery Trust.
The fortnight training programme offered the young people training and opportunities for a chance to discuss a career in hotels, restaurants and food service management organisations. Springboard is the beginning of a young person’s involvement in a life changing programme that will ultimately provide them with the confidence, and an opportunity to begin a fulfilling career in hospitality.
Some of the young people stated that their highlights were:
- Gaining a passion for the hospitality industry and gaining a better understanding of the different options, roles and opportunities available and what is involved within the industry
- Completing some industry qualifications (FLOW modules)
- Gaining practical skills and Work Experience
- Became excited and hopeful about future opportunities in training and development within the industry through apprenticeships/college as well as part time/full time work opportunities.
- Building upon their employability and personal Development skills
We all had an amazing time. Well done everyone!
