D-Day 80th Anniversary Service

80th Anniversary D-Day

Four pupils from Kirkcaldy High School had the honour of attending The Commonwealth War Graves Commission follow the light of Liberation service at the Scottish National War Memorial, located within Edinburgh Castle. These momentous events aim to build connections between the last surviving D Day veterans and young people and bring them together to ensure that we pass the flame of commemoration to the next generation.

Our young people had the opportunity to see the torch of liberation that is making its way around the UK. They also had the opportunity to speak and connect with a WW2 Veteran who was present at the D-Day Landings. Moments like are very special for us and really are a once in a life time experience.

During the service, the Last Post was played and a two minute silence was observed by all. This gave us all an opportunity to reflect on the horrors of War but importantly, remember whose who gave their lives for our freedom.
