A huge thank you to all S6 students who applied & interviewed for the House Captain positions last week. The interviews were outstanding and it was a difficult choice for all House Leaders to make but we’re pleased to announce your new House Captains 2023-24 are as follows:

S6 Equality Ambassadors (Dr Murray)
If you expressed an interest in becoming an equality ambassador in S6, please come to the equality meeting on Tuesday lunchtime in A4.

Young Stem Leader (Miss Irvine)
Can all S3-S6 pupils who have expressed their interest in becoming a Young Stem Leader next session, please attend a meeting in A7 at 3:15pm today with myself and Miss Tennant. The plan is for everyone who is interested to get signed up before the holidays. If you cannot attend the meeting, please let one of us know.

YASS (Young Applicants in Schools Scheme) Open University – S6 Only (Mrs Hamilton)
The Young Applicants in Schools Scheme (YASS) gives S6 students in Scotland the unique opportunity to study a range of university level courses in school alongside their other studies. YASS is designed to bridge the gap between school and university, college or employment and helps motivated students stand out from the crowd. It encourages independent learning and builds confidence. Taking part in YASS develops key skills like time management and using an online study environment. If you would be interesting in finding out more about what courses are available and how to apply, please come to a meeting in Mrs Hamilton’s office at 1:15pm today.

Saltire Opportunity – S5/S6 Only (Miss Lipton)
There is an opportunity to gain Saltire Hours this Saturday 24 June at the Rabbit Braes Gala Day – if anyone is free this is a great opportunity to bank some Saltire Hours – a number of volunteers needed but specifically if anyone is any good at face painting? Please come see me ASAP & I’ll pass you on to the organiser.

Paris Trip Meeting (Mrs Morris/Miss Coggill)
Can all pupils who are going on the Paris trip, please attend an essential meeting on Wednesday 21 June at lunch in C7. Can any pupils who are unable to attend ensure that they make either Miss Coggill or Mrs Morris aware.

S6 Hoodies (Miss Lipton)
Please remember to submit your S6 Leaver Hoodie order – £20 each – £5 deposit required to secure.

Edinburgh Pride – Saturday 24 June (Dr Murray) 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
If you are coming to Edinburgh Pride on Saturday 24 June, then please come to A4 on Tuesday lunchtime to settle timings and logistics.

DYW Padlet (Mr Dick)
A lot of pupils will be looking to gain some work experience, this is a great opportunity to give you a flavour of the world of work and ‘try out’ a profession. If this is something, you are interested in there is a form to complete on the Padlet. There is also a great opportunity for any S5 pupils who are looking to study medicine. For anyone looking to leave school there are a number of vacancies including – apprenticeships in Admin, at Scotrail, Exxon, Babcock and Sky Television advertised. As well as a range of part and full time jobs.

Speak to Mr Dick if you require any help with applications, finding jobs or want some work experience.

LGBT+ Group (LGBT+ Committee)
The legendary Kirkcaldy High LGBT+ Group meets at lunchtime TODAY! This group is for anyone of any identity including allies. Dr Murray’s classroom (A4) is the place to be and all are welcome.

S2-S3 Music Lunch Club (Mrs Duckett)
This now takes place in E10 every day of the week, except Wednesdays.

Skill Toy Club (Mrs Duckett)
Skill toy club will take place in E10 every lunchtime.

KHS Choir! (Mrs Duckett)
Open to everyone, no auditions! After school on Tuesdays with Mrs Duckett in E10.

Equalities Group (Dr Murray)
The Equality Group exists to tackle all sorts of inequality such as sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, disablism, and other variations. Joining this group is a great way to actually change things at KHS. We meet in A4 every Wednesday lunchtime. Bring your lunch!

S1-S3 Maths Support Group (Mr Jones)
Need help with maths homework? Stuck on something you’ve looked at in lessons? Come along to the S1-S3 maths support group, every Wednesday lunchtime (1:05-1:40pm). Bring your lunch, bring your questions.

Guitar Ensemble (Mrs Simpson)
The Guitar Ensemble will take place on Wednesday lunchtime in E13.

Skill Toy Club (Mrs Duckett)
Skill toy club will take place in E10 every lunchtime.
