Huge thanks to everyone (staff and pupils) who came along and joined the register – 85 people signed up along with many more who came for information re joining the DKMS register (over 30’s). This has beaten our record so well done everyone!! Particular thanks to our Champions and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who ran the event.

LGBT+ History Month and “Purple Friday” (Equality Group)
February is “LGBT+ History Month” at KHS, when we celebrate the contributions LGBT+ people have made to the world over the years. Keep an eye on the KHS LGBT+ Twitter for the historical facts and interesting people.

Friday 24 February is “Purple Friday”, your opportunity to wear something purple to show your support for equality and diversity at KHS and across the world! This is NOT A “DRESS DOWN DAY” but a purple item of clothing will be allowed! 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

Army Workshop – Calling all S3-S6 pupils! (Mrs Whyte)
An opportunity has arisen for some pupils to join a workshop run by the British Army. This workshop will take place on 17 March and give you the opportunity to work in teams to complete a series of challenges and tasks. Here is the QR code to select your size and colour for your leavers’ hoodies. Let me know if you are having any issues. Please come and check your name on the list at the PSO base also as it will be what appears in the #23 on the back. I will be sending the order on the 10 March so please ensure all forms and payments are completed by then.

Science Research Placements (Miss Irvine/Dr Murray/Miss Tennant)
We have an opportunity for folk in S5 to spend some time during the summer working in REAL science/engineering labs. DYW Padlet (Mrs Whyte)
The Padlet has been updated with new opportunities, highlights include –

The opportunity for any interested S3-6 to join a skills workshop run by the British Army.
Apprenticeships – In Engineering, Gardening, Accountancy etc.
Summer School for S5 – Opportunity to attend a residential at some of the UK’s top Universities through Sutton Trust in a range of activities.

This now takes place in E10 every day of the week, except Wednesdays.

String Group (Mrs Simpson)
The String Group will take place on Thursday lunchtime in E13.

Calm Colouring Lunch Club (Ms Geddes/Miss Millar)
If you would like a calm space to have lunch and do a bit of colouring, with the option to chat through any questions with our Mental Health Ambassadors, then this is the club for you! Head along to A3 (Science) where Miss Millar and Ms Geddes will have all the resources you need to chill out and recharge for the afternoon ahead. Today from 1:10pm.

S1 & S2 Netball (Mrs Steedman)
Training will be afterschool every Thursday starting this week from 3:30-4:15pm.

Come along to the PSO base at lunchtime to play various card games and make new friends. Maybe your friends are off, and you have nowhere to go or you see yourself as a real “card shark” all are very welcome!

The Wind Band will take place on Friday lunchtime in E13/Dance Studio.

Health Zone Drop In (Mrs Davidson)
Every Friday lunchtime, the school nurse team run a confidential drop in session. They are situated behind the careers room opposite the main office.

S1 Reading Group (Miss Britton)
S1 Reading Group during Friday lunchtimes in room B23. It’s a chance to practice reading out loud.

Have Lunch with A Hero! (Mrs Brown)
The Rock stars as Hercules in this tale of good vs evil – but it’s not always easy to tell who to trust! All are welcome to come along to C11 with their lunch to see this movie.
