The Week Ahead (Mr Allan)
Best wishes for the week ahead everyone. Good luck to our senior footballers, who play Carnoustie High School in the Scottish Shield this afternoon. Remember that on Wednesday after school we have our S2 Parent/Carer Evening online. On Thursday we will have a special Remembrance event across the school, including a 2 minute silence at 11am and wreath laying at the KHS War Memorial. Friday is a training day for teaching staff which means that the school is closed to pupils. Tutor restarts next Monday (15 November) and will be extended that day until 9.10am to allow you to get to know your new classmates and go over a few important matters. Please continue to test for Covid, stay away from school if you are unwell and bring your own reusable face covering to school every day. Take care.

Astroturf (Mr English)
The astroturf will be closed at lunchtime today to avoid a litter issue when the senior team have a Scottish Shield tie v Carnoustie in the afternoon.

S2 Football (Mr Crawford)
S2 training is cancelled today after school as there is a senior Scottish Cup match. It will be back on as usual next week.

Biology Study Support (Mrs Dempsey)
Mrs Dempsey is changing the Biology study support this week to Tuesday after school instead of Wednesday due to S2 Parents Night. Please head to A18 after school. This is for one week only.

Lessons from Auschwitz Project 2021 – S5/6 Pupils! (Miss Osborne)
There are 3 places available for S5/6 pupils to take part in this fantastic project aimed at educating pupils about the Holocaust and consider its relevance today. The Holocaust was the murder of 6 million Jewish men, women and children by the Nazis and their collaborators – it was an event which would change the shape of Europe, and the world, forever. During the Project, participants will:

  • Explore this challenging history by taking part in live sessions, led by experts in the history of the Holocaust
  • Hear directly from Holocaust survivors, who will share their personal experiences, including a live survivor testimony and Q&A
  • Virtually visit the most notorious site of the Holocaust, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum; and considering the relevance of this history in today’s world.

If you are interested in taking part in this amazing opportunity, please speak to Miss Osborne in B17 ASAP/before Friday. You do not need to be studying History to apply for this opportunity. The Project will take place in December this year!

S6 Prom (Mr Fulton)
The S6 Prom is booked for Friday the 17 June 2022 and is being held at Forrester Park, Cairneyhill. It will cost £40 per pupil, and we would like to encourage all S6 pupils who would plan to attend to pay at least £5 towards the price of their ticket by the end of the week.

Please make all payments using the iPayimpact system. If you are not registered for this, you can collect a letter from the office with instructions on how to set this up.

Scottish Youth Parliament Elections (Miss Young)
This week you have the chance to vote in the Scottish Youth Parliament elections. This allows you to have a real say in who is voicing opinions on your behalf in Parliament and real and important issues. There are 4 candidates running for Kirkcaldy, 2 of these are from KHS, Ramiza Ahmad in S6 and Karam Aslam in S3. If you have social subjects on Monday you will have a chance to vote during class time – if not then please go on and vote!!

You can go onto GLOW where there are tiles installed on the Fife council tabs for the Youth Parliament to allow you to read the candidate profiles and vote. REMEMBER – voting is confidential – others should not know who you voted for. Don’t allow anyone to vote on your behalf as your vote matters. This helps make a true democratic result!

Dress Down Day (Douglas King, Travel & Tourism Class)
Hello everyone on Friday 19 November there is going to be a dress down day for Children in Need. The theme is all about being yourself. Everyone is equal in school and we should take a chance to celebrate that. There should be no football strips or inappropriate clothing worn on the dress down day. Please also bring a change of kit if you have PE. Pay a donation of £1 or what you can afford in tutor on the day.
