Transitions
Within King’s Road Primary and Nursery we aim to help all children to manage change as they encounter new experiences and challenges. We want to make the transition to school and within school as seamless and natural as possible for all our children.
Please click here for information on how you can help to prepare your child for school.
Children are gradually introduced to ‘school life’ over the course of their pre-school year. During the visits the children will participate in a range of activities alongside their Primary 1 friends e.g. busy start, story telling and songs/rhymes. Staff from both the nursery and the primary school work together to provide a supportive network for both parents and children.
We realise that some children will not move on to King’s Road Primary School. Children moving on to other primary schools will be given transition visits to their respective primary schools as part of their planned transition activities.
Children within our primary also experience stage to stage transition. They are supported in this by having planned opportunities to ‘meet the teacher.’ Careful transition takes place between staff to ensure that important information is shared.
Caledonia High School

Most of our children transition from Primary 7 to Caledonia High School, our associated high school that has recently opened in Rosyth. We work closely with other High Schools that children may transition to. You can find out more about Caledonia High School here.
The primary school within our Caledonia High School ‘cluster’ are:
- Aberdour
- Camdean
- Dalgety Bay
- Donibristle
- Inverkeithing
- North Queensferry
- Park Road
Pupils from these schools also transfer to Caledonia High School at the end of their Primary 7 year.
Each child is part of a Transition Team on GLOW and engage in learning throughout their final terms in King’s Road. Parents wishing their child to attend another secondary provision are required to put in a placing request to the school in writing by mid March.
