School Ethos
Our vision is to be a vibrant, fun, safe place where we support each child and their family so they can reach their full potential. Through strong partnerships and community links, we help develop individual skills for life.
John Fergus Values
Confidence
– so we aim to encourage each pupil to reach their full potential and gain independence in all areas of the curriculum and within their local environment.
Happiness
– so we aim to make each pupil feel important, value what they contribute to the school and local community and celebrate their successes.
Respect
– so we aim to treat each pupil equally and as an individual and to develop their understanding of others and the environment around them.
Motivation
– so we aim to involve each pupil in their individual learning to encourage them to become active learners in a variety of suitable settings.
Safety and Security
– so we aim to work in partnership with parents and other professionals to provide each pupil with a safe and secure environment in which to learn.
We have extensive school grounds, with a range of outdoor play equipment and two areas of soft landing. We also make full use of physical facilities within school and those provided by our partners. The school premises consists of four classrooms with sufficient additional areas to offer quiet work spaces. We have a sensory room where we can use lighting effects to create environments of our choice. The soft play room means pupils can explore their physical world safely. The training kitchen and laundry facilitate pupils practicing their Skills for learning, life and work, as well as SQA National 1 courses.
We encourage independence and life skills in the local community through links with local groups and businesses, such as St Columbas Church, St Lukes Church and Auchmuty Tenants Association. Close links with Fife carers help inform families of services and support available. Other partners involved in developing our school grounds and outdoor play include, the Community Payback team and Fife Council Parks Department.
We have other agencies directly involved with our school to meet the needs of our children as well.
These include:
Pupil Support Nurse
Speech and Language Therapy
Educational Psychologist
Visual Impairment Service
Physiotherapy
Occupational Therapy
