During your child’s time as a pupil at Inverkeithing PS they will experience a wide variety of both formative and summative assessment experiences that gather data to ensure that we are getting it right in regards to the educational experiences and learning activities that we are planning for your child.
In school assessments are normally set within your child’s classroom setting in order to ensure there is limited stress or duress and teachers develop these within the normal class environment and promote them as being part of the learning journey.
Sometimes assessments are carried out to assess any learning difficulties or challenges that a child may be facing. These assessments are carried out by our Learning support teacher and are based on observations of the child during learning activities, reviewing their class work and possibly completing some learning activities which are linked to the assessment outcomes. In most cases these are carried out within the childs own learning environment, unless it is deemed that this might obscure the assessment results.
Another aspect of assessment that is carried out every year are the Scottish National Standardised Assessments. these are mostly online assessments that the child would again complete within their own classroom setting during the normal learning activities of the day. SNSA assessments are carried out during the P1, P4 and P7 stages.
