Curricular Policy

In common with all schools in Scotland, we implement Curriculum for Excellence for 3-18 year olds. This aims to prepare young people for the challenges ahead in a rapidly developing global environment. Throughout there is a new emphasis on Scottish contexts, Scottish culture and Scotland’s history and place in the world. Methodology will focus on encouraging children to be active participants in their own learning by presenting them with:

  • challenge and enjoyment
  • breadth
  • progression
  • depth
  • personalisation and choice
  • coherence
  • relevance

The aim is to develop children as:

  • successful learners
  • confident individuals
  • effective contributors
  • responsible citizens

This will be achieved through learning in the newly established curricular areas of:

  • health and wellbeing
  • language and literacy
  • numeracy
  • science
  • social studies
  • expressive arts
  • technologies
  • religious and moral education
