Why?
This would show clearly that everyone:
- is working to include all the school community
- is aware of diversity
- has respect for all
- believes everyone matters
- appreciates families may require varying levels of support
- recognises and is committed to meeting our obligations under the Equality Act 2010.
What should an Equality and Diversity Policy say?
Every school and ELC community is unique so there is no one single Equality Policy that your setting can simply download and adopt unchanged. That said an example policy outline and some example policies are included in the links, which can be used as a starting point. Equality and Equity are more about meeting the general principles rather than having a fixed set of rules.
A school or ELC community should be working to make sure it remains open and inclusive for everyone. An Equality and Diversity Policy should be co-produced by setting staff, children and young people, and parents to make sure under-represented groups have a voice.
