Enterprising Education

A regular part of our curriculum at Elie involves the children working together on Enterprising topics or projects. This allows children to have real life experiences and to apply their learning across all curricular areas into a real-life context.

Some of the time children aim to make a profit or to raise funds for residential trips and some of the time they are organising an event. Whatever the focus, the real-life application of learning creates a huge buzz and drive to do the best they can! These types of projects give the children an insight into the link between Skills for Learning, Life and Work. See below for some examples of previous enterprise focuses.

Sponsored walks to raise money for residential trips

The children enjoy a challenge – these walks have grown in distance and difficulty with each fundraising bid, from climbing Largo Law to an 11-mile walk along the Fife Coastal Path.

Children are the leaders in all our fundraising efforts: they set the challenge which they think is sponsor worthy and they always raise the challenge. In Term 4 of 2025, the children raised over £500 across a movie night, a sponsored run and a talent show.

Burns’ Supper

For the past 2 years, pupils have prepared and hosted a Burns’ Supper in the local town hall for all families of Elie Primary. Both events so far have been fantastic afternoons which showcased the expressive, organisational and culinary talents of our children. We will be looking forward to Burns 2026!
