Welcome to our school!
We have made a guide to give you information about our school…
Culross Primary School serves the areas of Culross, Low Valleyfield and Shiresmill. Our school is a small rural primary school situated in the historic village of Culross with the Firth of Forth to the rear of the building.
Culross Primary School has four classrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs. Our Confucius Hub is located in one of the upstairs classrooms and is regularly visited by other primary schools within our cluster. Additionally, downstairs we have our ‘Culross Cosy’, a Support for Learning Base, an office and gym/dinner hall.
The playground is very large and offers many different areas to play and learn. The children also have access to an outdoor gym as well as a recently developed outdoor classroom area to the rear of the school playground
Culross Primary School was inspected in April 2019.
Here is our Culross Primary School Inspection Report.
Confucius Hub
We are very proud to have our Confucius Hub support our children’s learning, but also that of the cluster primary schools too. The Hub is located in one of the upstairs classrooms and is an inspiring and exciting learning environment.
Culross Primary benefits from strong partnerships with:
- Confucius Institute for Scottish Schools (CISS)
- Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT)
- Historic Scotland (through IDL projects such as the Young Ambassador’s Award)
We share our practice at a national level through CISS, SCILT and Regional Steering Group meetings and events. We are frequently approached by other partners and Mandarin Hubs throughout Scotland for support. An example of this being supporting the National Museum of Scotland in preparation for the opening of their ASIA exhibition.
In our school, Mandarin is taught from Primary 1, with children engaging in high quality weekly lessons delivered on Chinese language and culture by our Hanban teachers. We have also delivered a 12 week progression of study to ensure all Primary 7s are exposed to the same level of mandarin in preparation for moving onto High School. Furthermore, additional opportunities for our partner cluster schools are organised to develop knowledge and understanding through experiences such as ‘Beyond the Panda’ at Edinburgh Zoo.
