Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery section!

The level of day to day involvement you have with the Nursery is up to you. The Nursery staff value the regular contact they have with parents, carers and grandparents. However, we appreciate that many parents are not able to keep close daily contact through work commitments, and we try to keep everyone informed of nursery events and activities through our regular newsletter.

Sharing information is actively encouraged eg death of a pet, parent’s new job etc, as these items of family interest may affect the child’s responses in Nursery. Parents and Carers are invited to parent/teacher interviews in November and March each year, to give you a chance to discuss children’s progress.

As we go through the year, you will be invited to help staff build up a portfolio of your child through his/her Personal Learning Journal. We call it the PLJ. By the end of your child’s time in nursery this will be a sizeable document, and will mark their many achievements. Feel free to look at, and add to, your child’s PLJ whenever you wish. Just let staff know if you want to take it home to share at any time.

There will be a questionnaire at the end of each year to ask your opinion of the nursery and to find out how you feel it could be improved. We constantly review our practice. Please don’t wait for the questionnaire if something occurs to you during the year. Make use of the Suggestion Book in the Parents’ Area, or speak to any member of staff if you have a comment or suggestion to make.

Remember that this is your nursery for your children! We welcome all the support and/or suggestions you can offer.

All parents in the school are members of the Parent Forum, and can apply to join the Parent Council. It is an excellent way to get to know people and learn more about how the school works. Crossford Parent Council works to support the school and encourage links between the school, parents and the wider community. They also organise fun and fundraising events.

If you have a concern, or a complaint about anything, please speak to either nursery staff or myself. If you feel we have not dealt with your complaint to your satisfaction, please see information in the entrance foyer on how to complain to either Fife Council or SCSWIS (Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland). Information about the work of SCSWIS is also displayed there. Their web address is www.scswis.com or you can telephone 0845 600 9527.
