Music Instruction at Canmore

Youth Music Initiative (YMI) aims to create access to high quality music making opportunities for young people, offer young people the chance to achieve their potential in or through music making, and support the development of the youth music sector for the benefit of young people. Fife YMI offers a variety of music projects delivered by highly skilled Fife Music Instructors and external music partnerships with respected local and national providers

The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) is funded by the Scottish Government and administered by Creative Scotland.

Fife Youth Music Initiative offers a range of activities for children and young people, mainly aimed at the pre-Primary 6 stage, in line with guidance from Creative Scotland.

Each year, all primary schools are offered a Youth Music Initiative funded project, usually aimed at the P5 stage and above . P5 pupils have guitar lessons and offered stringed instrument tuition. P6 and above are offered weekly lessons with a visiting specialist stringed instrument tutor or a visiting specialist brass tutor.

Whatever project is offered the aim is the same – to actively involve and enthuse children, encouraging their future participation in music making, both in and out of school.

All Youth Music Initiative projects are offered at no cost to schools, children or parents.
