Digital Schools Award

Digital Literacy at Canmore

Digital Literacy is widely recognised as a key skill for the 21st century workplace. More than at any time in the past, children are surrounded by, and using, technology in their everyday life.

At Canmore, we recognise the important role that technology, and the confidence to use a range of digital tools, will play in the future lives of our pupils.

Digital Literacy in schools covers a wide range of approaches. From thinking logically (algorithms), awareness of internet safety, using search engines for researching, using devices to create artwork, music and photography,  using office software, all the way through to showcasing their learning using video greenscreen technology.

It is our aim to embed Digital Literacy into all areas of the curriculum rather than be a stand alone subject.

In June 2022, Canmore successfully became  a Digital Schools Award School with an additional added Mentor Status.  We are one of only a very few primary schools in Fife and only the second in Dunfermline to achieve the award.

Digital Schools Awards is a national awards scheme to promote, recognise and encourage a whole school approach to the use of digital technology in schools.

The Digital Schools Award Scotland is a programme to help schools assess progress and recognise excellence in the use of digital technology at nursery, primary, special education and secondary level while providing practical support and encouragement.

Schools that successfully complete the programme receive a nationally recognised award by Education Scotland.
