School Uniform
At Canmore we strongly encourage the wearing of school uniform that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. For this reason, we feel jeans, leggings, jeggings and hoodies are not appropriate school uniform.
Our school colours are black, grey and green.
Aims
The reason behind promoting school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:
- promotes a sense of pride in the school
- engenders a feeling of community and belonging
- is practical and smart
- identifies the children with the school
- is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
- makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
- is regarded as suitable and good value for money by most parents
- has been designed with health and safety in mind.

Jewellery, Make up and Cosmetics
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school.
Make up and cosmetics are not considered appropriate or consistent with our school uniform. The school does not permit such products to be worn by any children, unless there is a specific event.
P7 Ties
During their final year at Canmore, P7 pupils have a different tie. A solid green tie (which also contains logos from our school badge) is worn to show that they are the senior pupils within school. This is a tradition that started in 2015 following a pupil design competition. Each year our new P7 cohort look forward to receiving their new ties. Ties can be ordered through our school office.
Clothing for P.E. days.
Currently, we are still requesting that pupils come to school dressed ready for P.E. when it is their timetabled day. This will be notified to parents by the class teacher.
Could all pupils ensure that they come dressed for the possibility of both outdoor or indoor P.E.
Outdoor/Indoor gym kit is a plain coloured t-shirt, preferably white. Football tops, t-shirts with designs or designer-branded tops with large logos should not be used.
Black joggers/leggins (again, large logos are to be avoided).
Plain black/Plain dark coloured trainers.
In case the inclement Scottish weather catches us out, extra socks or tops are always a good idea to have in their bags. Bringing a change of shoes should also be considered as a spare item so that your child can change their footwear to dry footwear when they come inside (a plea from the cleaners too).
