In Scotland, every 3- and 4-year-old — and some eligible 2-year-olds — can receive up to 1140 hours of funded early learning and childcare each year. This is a valuable opportunity for your child to grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and stimulating environment.
Children are natural learners, soaking up new skills and ideas every day. Attending a high-quality nursery can give their development an extra boost, helping them build confidence, curiosity, and social skills that last a lifetime.
When your child can start
In Falkirk, nursery start dates are arranged directly by the staff at your chosen setting. Once your place is confirmed, you’ll receive details of your child’s start date and a settling-in period. This gradual start — at least one week, and longer if needed — ensures your child feels secure and happy before attending full sessions.
By local agreement, if your child turns 3 between 1 August and 28 (or 29) February, they will be able to start their funded place one calendar month after their 3rd birthday.
The nursery team at St Mary’s will be with you every step of the way, making sure the transition is smooth for both you and your child.
