New Approach for Falkirk EPS
Falkirk Educational Psychology Service has launched a new approach. The launch event is on the 3rd of September. See our letter
We have new way of requesting a service. As of the 8th of August 2025, all requests will need to go through the online request for assistance form.
There will no longer be a named psychologist for each school or nursery. There is more information on this Blog:
You will need the parent, guardian or child over 16’s email address in order for them to consent.

Modernising the Service 2025
Falkirk is changing how a request for assistance can be made.
Please have a look at our general information. We want to ensure we can respond to the demands and requests from within the resource we have.
The consultation and Survey have closed.

Published on the Improvement Hub
Education Scotland have just published the Action Enquiry projects for 2018/19 on the Improvement Hub. Falkirk EPS contributed with two papers as part of the Forth Valley and West Lothian Collaborative project:
- Bridging the Gaps in numeracy attainment, 2019, Balchin and McLafferty.
- Psychological factors in promoting numeracy, 2019, Balchin.
The full report is also available on this website.

New Children’s Rights Legislation
Researchers at the University of Edinburgh and University of Manchester have developed a short film to increase knowledge and awareness among parents and practitioners of new children’s rights legislation. The Education (Scotland) Act 2016 (commenced in January 2018) has provided children aged 12-15 years with Additional Support Needs (ASN) with independent rights regarding their education which are almost equivalent to those held by parents and young people, including the right to advice and information and to request particular types of assessment.
This short film incorporates the perspectives of education practitioners, children and young people with ASNs and various other organisations including the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland and the president of the ASN Tribunal for Scotland.
Please see the link to this short film.
Autism Prevalence Rates
Prevalence rates for Autism are 1.04% or are they? Scottish schools data indicates there are 2.2% of children with Additional Support Needs and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
