Homework Protocol

This information was sent out to families in February 2019 after consultation with staff and Parent Council

We are always adapting our approaches in Easter Carmuirs and we have taken some feedback from Parent Council on the way we use homework to support our learning in school.

Homework has a range of purposes and will be directed by the class teacher as appropriate. There may be times when they feel that some consolidation of learning would be useful or some preparation for a new concept would be advantageous.

Class teachers will communicate their expectations regarding homework to your child and as our children develop through the school they will be expected to take more responsibility for communicating this to you. Class teachers will also use Dojo to back up this communication.

Each class teacher will take account of the age and stage of their children and of their particular learning needs when deciding on the amount and frequency of homework. They will also take account of significant events and be aware of local, national and global areas of interest or significance. Teachers may share useful websites or ask that some practical tasks are undertaken. For example we are currently developing a Wider Achievement approach for all children which will fall under this umbrella and further details regarding this will be shared soon.

We are aware that family time is busy therefore we have taken the decision that homework is not compulsory and decisions about whether to complete it are taken within the family.

Equally if you would like some specific targeted support for your child please contact your class teacher who will be happy to provide guidance and/or resources.

Please remember if you have any questions about this approach please contact your child’s teacher.
