Google Gemini: Logging in

Google Gemini is now available to all staff in Google Workspace via Glow. This guide covers how to log in and how to report access issues.

What is Google Gemini?

Gemini from Google is a generative AI tool that can answer a range of questions and compose content in a variety of formats. It is accessible via a web browser with a user being required to sign in before accessing the service. Users enter requests in the form of a prompt and will be presented with the results. You can learn more about Gemini on this page on Glow Connect.

Please note that Google Gemini is an 18+ service and is only available to staff within Glow in Falkirk.

Gemini is still under development. You should review any information it provides before presenting it to your learners and ensure that you have read our AI in Education: Guiding Principles and Practice page before using it.

Logging in

Staff Glow users in Falkirk can access Gemini using their Google Workspace account within Glow. This is turned on for every establishment even if you have never used it.

Please note, for some staff there may be an error when logging into Gemini via Glow, details on how to resolve this can be found at the end of these logging in steps.

.

1. Open your internet browser on iPad, desktop or laptop. Go to Glow and sign in as normal.

.

2. On your establishment Launch Pad (the house icon on the left) use the Google Drive tile. You can also add Google Drive to your personal Launch Pad (the person icon on the left) for faster access. If your establishment Launch Pad does not have Google Drive please contact Kerry.Abercrombie@education.falkirk.sch.uk to have it added.

.

3. In Google Drive click/tap on the waffle icon and select ‘Gemini’. If this is your first time using your Google Workspace for Education account in Glow you will have to accept terms and conditions before you’ll see the screen shown here.

.

4. The first time you use Gemini you will see this screen. Select ‘Chat with Gemini’ and accept and terms and conditions which pop up.

.

5. You are now in Gemini and can use it by tying your prompt into the text box at the bottom of the screen.

‘Something went wrong’ error and fix

Glow are aware of an error that can sometimes appear when trying to use Gemini for the first time. The ‘Something went wrong’ error looks like this:

To fix this you should report the error to the Falkirk Digital Learning Team using this Google form – we will use this form to raise a ticket with RM to resolve the issue. Please note that the current solution involves deletion of your Glow Google account and all associated data. It does not impact your Glow Microsoft account or data. As this appears to be happening to first time users of Google Workspace for Education within Glow you will be unlikely to have any files or data stored in your account but please check before you submit the form.
