Pre School Support Service

What is the Pre-School Home Visiting service?

The Pre-School Home Visiting service is part of the wider ASN Outreach Team provided by Falkirk Council’s Children’s Services. We cover the all areas of Falkirk Council.

The Pre-School team currently supports children from birth up to age 3, usually through one-to-one sessions and observations at home and/or nursery. We recognise the valuable knowledge and expertise families have and therefore, work in close partnership with parents/carers to promote positive outcomes.

Children referred to our service are likely to have been identified as having some level of additional support need which is impacting on their learning and progress. We support the child’s development through play-based learning and can offer advice to families and nurseries to be able to implement various strategies in their own setting.

What do we do?

Key features of our service include;

  • Encouraging positive interactions and development through play.
  • Implementing various communication and behaviour strategies and supporting families with this.
  • Linking with other services e.g. speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational psychology, nurseries, social work, health visitors, physiotherapy etc
  • Helping to develop the Child’s Plan, in line with the Additional Support for Learning act and GIRFEC agenda.
  • Supporting nurseries by liaising with staff, modelling good practice and offering training opportunities.
  • Working collegiately to support the child’s transition into nursery.

Early Intervention

“Early intervention is about taking action as soon as possible to tackle problems for children and families before they become more difficult to reverse.” (Early Intervention Foundation)

The Pre-School team promotes the philosophy of early intervention and understands that the earlier we can work with a child, the greater the chance of success. If you have any concerns about your child, please speak to your health visitor or GP. Alternatively, you may contact our service directly for more information on 01324 501984.
