Interrupted Learners Service
ILS works to improve a young person’s mental health and wellbeing, their academic achievements and to assist schools to secure a positive destination.
ILS minimises the effects of interruption to education by supporting the re-engagement of the young person with learning as soon as possible. Many of the young people who engage with ILS will require extensive support around their mental and physical health before being able to re-engage with any form of education. If and when a young person is ready and able to return to a formal educational setting, ILS will help to facilitate this transition, providing the young person as positive an experience as possible.
ILS is not an alternative placement but a support service which allows the young person to achieve their potential and reach a positive destination. Whilst attending ILS, the pupil will continue to be on the school roll.
Interrupted Learners Service fits within Staged Intervention Framework at Stage 4.
Prior to referring, the school must have exhausted all Stage 3 interventions and supports available to them.
