Support for Learning Assistants can help children or young people in school or nursery who need some extra help with their education. They are employed in schools and Early Years facilities, and the head teacher decides the priority for their work.
Your child may have additional support needs if they have a condition that is a short or long term barrier to learning, such as:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Dyslexia and Dyscalculia
- Dyspraxia
- Delayed development
- Disability or health need
- English as an additional language
- Sensory impairment
- Specific language impairment
The targets in your Child or Young Person’s Plan may require involvement from a Support for Learning Assistant, such as:
- Direct work
- In class support
- Personal review and counselling
For more information or advice, please contact your child’s school or nursery.
