Bookbug

Bookbug is part of the Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years’ Programme providing free book packs to every child in Scotland from birth to P1. More information about the Programme is available from Scottish Book Trust.

Local delivery of Bookbug is managed by Library Support for Schools in partnership with health professionals, local libraries and nurseries.  Bookbug provides an excellent opportunity to deliver the message of the importance of sharing books and developing a love of reading in young children.

Bookbug is clearly linked to the Scottish Government’s Literacy Action Plan:

  • Strengthening links with Health Centres;
  • Developing a strong reading culture from the earliest age;
  • Creating partnerships to support literacy improvement with family learning, early years’ establishments, schools and local libraries.
