Recount to the Skinflats Woods Day 2
On the 1st Of September our whole school including the little ones went to the Skinflats Woods as we are learning about how trees help us. We took a different route from the last time. Although it was a longer way to walk it took the same amount of time and it was an easier route. On our way to the woods we stopped by the chestnut tree and had a look at it because in our class novel there was a conker competition and we were going to collect conkers but they weren’t ready yet.
When we arrived we all made a pile of jackets and we got separated in to different groups. Then we had to find our own shelter. Mrs Lennie gave us a passage called “What Do Plants Eat?” Our group all read a paragraph each and started to learn about the process of photosynthesis. The way photosynthesis works is the leaves of the trees take in carbon dioxide and the sunlight then the roots part is it sucks up all the water then it makes sugar called glucose. The chemical that make the sugar is called chlorophyll. All of this together is called photosynthesis
We have a good relationship with trees as we give them carbon dioxide and in return they give us oxygen as they don’t need oxygen to survive.
After we read the passage “What do Plants Eat?” Mrs. Lennie then tested us by tying signs with an “a, b or c” to a tree and we had to run to a, b or c when she asked us the question. It was a lot of fun.
We stayed ten minutes longer to let the younger ones go ahead and we went over the process of photosynthesis once more then started to walk back to school. Although we stayed behind we still caught up with the little ones and we all walked home together.
