Outdoor Learning Resources

As we started on this page we quickly discovered there are a dizzying array of resources on the internet. It even made our heads spin and we realised if you are looking for ideas to improve how you use the outdoors as a learning space too much makes it confusing.

So here are a few we though might help you start:

The Learning Outdoors Support Team in East Ayrshire have developed a resource page. There are loads of great resources. We like the Teaching and Learning Resources page, it offers you the subject areas and then suggesting based round the stages of education.

The Scottish Advisory Panel for Outdoor Education (SAPOE) worked with Education Scotland to develop the Teaching Learning Outdoors online course on the Professional Learning Platform. They also developed the Supporting Learning Outdoors online course. Although these were both developed during COVID they have relevance to understand the context of outdoor learning.

One of Tim’s favourite places to visit when he is looking for inspiration is Juliet Roberson’s CreativeSTAR site. There is a huge list of ideas and thoughts. Juliet helped design the Forest and Outdoor Kindergarten SCVF Level 7 which is one of the Vocational Qualifications offered by the Comhairle for you to continue your professional development if you are an early years practitioner. Tim is a trainer for the delivery of this unit so please contact him if you would like to talk about it.
