Outdoor Learning in the Outer Hebrides

Welcome to the site of the Outdoor Learning Team in the Outer Hebrides.

Our role within the Comhairle is to help promote and increase the use of the outside environment as a learning space. We are deliberately a little vague because learning and education is not just what happens to you while you are in school but is, and should be, life long. We are here to help you make use of the amazing environment we have in the Outer Hebrides and the West Coast of Scotland.

The aim of the site is to show the work the team does and to provide you with signposts to resources and information we have found useful. It is a developing resource so please feel free to make suggestions.

Outdoor Learning is one of Education Scotland’s key pillars of Learning for Sustainability, with Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development Education. The important thing we realised is none of these are subjects, they are pedagogies seen throughout educational practice. Outdoors, we feel, should be another learning space for good educators to use.

We are here to help so please contact us if you would like to talk to us about how we could help you.
