History
Introduction to the Department
We are aware that for some pupils, their last formal experience of History as a school subject will be in S2. Therefore S1 and S2 pupils study a range of local, national and global contexts in accordance with A Curriculum for Excellence and The Broad General Education Guidelines. In S1 pupils study themes such as ”Why did people move to Scotland and what impact did they have on Scottish Culture?” In S2 themes studied include “Indentify possible causes of a conflict and report on its impact on people’s lives.”
Courses Offered in the Department
For those pupils who choose to continue to study History beyond S2, we follow the Broad General Education as delineated. In S3 themes studied include “The social, political and economic impact of technological change.” Again pupils study a range of local, national and global contexts in accordance with A Curriculum for Excellence and The BGE. S4 Pupils following the new National 3, 4 and 5 qualifications. Pupils study three units covering Scottish, British, European and World History in the Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. We also offer courses for S5 and S6 pupils at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. Pupils study a variety of topics from the British, Scottish and World contexts.
