Graphic Communication Advanced Higher

Overview:

Advanced Higher Graphic Communication allows you to flex your creative freedom; where you can push your graphical skills to the limits and try new technology, techniques and concepts to present a huge range of graphics.

You will learn how to produce commercial level graphics that can help you springboard to university or employment.

This challenging course requires commitment and a sense of adventure; you will have to create presentations in relation to a brief and deliver at the highest levels.

Assessment:

Unit work:

Pupils are required to pass two units of work:

You will learn new manual techniques for creating graphics along with using the latest industrial software and hardware used by professional designers and engineers to solve problems.

  • Unit 1: Technical Graphics
  • Unit 2: Visual Media Graphics

Both units are assessed on a pass/fail basis and pupils will work on these  from August to November.

Written exam:

Pupils will sit a two hour written exam that will require them to draw upon their knowledge of course theory. This exam is worth 40% of the overall course award.

Exam project:

Pupils will undertake an independent project worth 60% of the overall course award. Pupils will identify and select their own problem for this task and will aim to solve it utilising their skills in graphic communication. Pupils are likely to select either a technical graphics or visual media approach. The final project will showcase what pupils can do and will provide them with an extensive portfolio that can be utilised when applying for jobs or university/college courses.
