Pr. 3b class blog Sept 2015

Welcome to P3b’s first class blog. We have settled well into our new classroom routines and have created a class charter which we have all signed.

Social Studies

We have started the year with a mini topic on how to care for our school and community.  We looked specifically at litter.  Over a week the class took part in a litter study to establish which areas of the playground have the most litter.  We made a graph of these findings and discussed ways to reduce litter.

Olivia ‘We had fun collecting litter.’

Noah ‘We were surprised that the Trim Trail had most litter.’

Science

We have been exploring magnets.  We are trying to discover which objects attract the magnet or repel it.  We have spent time discussing fair testing and we plan to make the primary ones a magnet game.

Dougal ‘I enjoyed experimenting with Magnets.’

Scott ‘I learned that magnets have a North and South Pole.

HWB

Our focus at the moment is food and nutrition.  We are looking at the foods we like/dislike and the importance of food.  We have discovered there are 5 food groups.  We have been sorting a variety of foods in these groups.

Lucy ‘We have been making our own healthy food plates.’

Chloe ‘We are learning which foods help us to stay healthy.’

Expressive Arts

During art we have been developing tone and pattern using a range of materials.

Sherwan ‘We decorated vases and painted flowers.’

Phoebe ‘We used our fingers to paint water lillies copying Monet’s picture.’

ICT

We have been reminding ourselves of the keyboard layout and discussed some of the skills we learned in primary 2.  We have been concentrating on making graphs which has linked well with our social studies topic.

Ruby ‘We have been learning to use graph Excel and we can change the colour of our graphs.’

Awesome Achievers P.3b Sept 2015

Our class are very proud of our successes in becoming more independent and taking responsibility for getting ourselves ready, helping around the house and completing our homework.

Sporting successes include golf, swimming, running and hill climbing.

We are showing confidence by attending a weekend Brownie Camp and attending a new gymnastics class not knowing anyone.

P2b March 2015

In PE we have been learning Basketball skills.  We have been practising bouncing the ball and throwing the ball.  We have been listening to instructions and following the rules of how to take part in a game of basketball.

In French we have been learning how to say the days of the week and the months of the year.  We improve our learning through hot seating and matching games on the computer.   We have also learnt about how the French celebrate Easter, their traditions include chocolate bells and chocolate fish.

In ICT we have learned how to make comic stripes using 2Publish and 2Animate.  We also used this software to design our vending machines, linked to our Financial Education work.  We have used the games on Education City to help us practise using money.  We have used the Beebot software to give directions and to control the movements of the Beebot.

During RME we have been talking about religious buildings linked to different religions.  We have been watching the Easter story and recording the key facts of the story in our jotters.

We made red noses out of clay and then decorated them with paint.  We also made funny faces by making bowties and moustaches.  We had a lot of fun on Comic Relief day.

Primary 2b’s Topic

Primary 2 have been loving their Transport topic which is being led by Miss Hood. They have been learning all about different types of transport and transport in the past, including who first invented some types of transport. They have even invented some of their own future methods of transport such as hover cars and time machines!
The Pirate section of this project and has also been lots of fun with writing a pirate story and making maps.
In drama they have been playing lots of games and even been pretending to be pirates.

In RME they have been learning about Religious Buildings and have learnt different facts about several different religions. They have made posters to show their understanding of the information they have researched.

In ICT they have been learning all about how to use animation to create story books and can now create their own pictures to tell a story.

My Country Study

This was linked to our Climate Zones project. We each worked with a partner to investigate a country. We used the internet to gather lots of information about our country, including which continent it was part of and what type of climate it has.

We also found out about the native animals, famous people and the types of food that they eat in the country.

Australia was researched by Chloe and Amy and they found out about all the interesting animals that live in Australia, such as crocodiles, koala bears, snakes and kangaroos.

Iain and Finn looked at Russia and discovered that it was part of two continents – Asia and Europe.

We enjoyed presenting our information to the rest of the class and listening to facts about other countries.

Primary 2b’s Favourite Things

We enjoy doing EPIC R three days a week as this gives us all a chance to practise our reading skills with our personal books.  We like reading aloud in our reading groups and are working on the skill of sequencing.

In I.C.T. we have enjoyed playing educational games through Education City and we have also watched safety videos on Hector’s World.

In P.E. we have been learning how to take part in team games and have been practising our ball skills.

At lunchtime and break time we get to spend time with our friends playing games and we love when it is our turn to go on the Trim Trail.

We have started a new project about climate zones and are looking forward to working with our partners to investigate different countries.

We have been improving our handwriting and are now starting to learn how to write each letter correctly so that we will be able to join up our letters.

We like to be healthy and enjoy eating our fruit and drinking our orange juice.

We are doing some Autumn time artwork just now and had a lot of fun going outside to investigate what different surfaces we could do rubbings off.

We enjoy doing our maths work and have learned 3D shape names and are learning how to find a half.  For problem solving we have been working in groups to look for patterns, this has been tricky but we have worked well together.
