The children learned the Christian tradition of Pancake Tuesday and had lots of fun trying to perfect the recipe to make the best pancakes. We took the time to reflect on what we are grateful for and what we are willing to sacrifice (Or do more of ) during Lent as Jesus did for us for 40 days and 40 nights.
Please have a short conversation with your child at home about their Lenten promises and we hope as a family you enjoy Lent together as a time to prepare your hearts and minds for Good Friday and Easter 🙏

To put our money skills into practice and use in a real life context we just had to go to our local cafe to test out our skills 😉
Before our visit we focussed on looking at menus, making a choice and adding up the correct amount of money we would need in exchange for what we wanted to order. We had to work to a £2 budget and not go over our limit. What a great time had by all of the children who were able to put their money and budgeting skills into practice and join in a wee blether at the cafe. I always tell them that going to a cafe and having a cuppa and a chat is my favourite thing to do with my wee Mum and my girls ☕️❤️. The world truly is a lighter place to be in after a cuppa and a chat!
This trip led to a great interest in menus with some of our children taking the learning further and creating their own menus for their dream cafes/restaurants. An amazing amount of effort and detail was put into these menus and they made us all very hungry indeed!🍰🍪🥤☕️🍩🍔🥨🍳
I think we need to ask Mr Hutcheson if this could be a weekly trip 😄

As part of our IDL topic we have been learning all about the sports involved in the Winter Olympics and comparing them with the sports carried out in the Summer Olympics. The children worked in pairs to research a chosen sport and find out certain facts about it. They worked cooperatively to complete the task and shared their learning with their class mates by presenting and reporting on their findings. The children achieved many talking and listening skills in the process and kept to task throughout. We even had our very own curling competition and the children had great fun learning a new skill and taking part in a team game with their peers. Our Young People are our champions who are certainly worthy of a Gold medal for all of their achievements! 👏👏👏

We welcomed Joe into the Greenhouse to experience more learning about nature in our local environment. Joe brought may artefacts for us to look at and discuss and I was very impressed with the children’s sensible contributions and questions. The knowledge shared and developed was impressive and I hope our young people continue to be responsible citizens and look after God’s animals and keep our local environment a healthy habitat for them.

Our Monday group enjoyed learning all about the life of St. Valentine and the story of how St. Valentine’s Day came about. We discussed the emotions of love and care and how we can express these with our families and close friends! We then successfully followed a simple biscuit Recipe to make love heart biscuits to share with those we love at home. ❤️❤️❤️

Our Thursday morning group were very responsible citizens in our local community this week. They followed all of the rules and instructions to travel safely to and from the library and carried out their tasks within the library appropriately and with maturity. We obviously had to finish off with a lovely story. They even got to choose a wee treat on the walk home for their excellent efforts!

We are so proud of how hard our young people have been working and applying themselves. Every day they ‘have a go’ at new challenges and are developing their ‘can do’ attitudes along the way.
Keep up the hard work everyone!

Kung Hei Fat Choi!
The children have been learning all about different cultures and traditions associated with the celebration of Chinese New Year. They watched and discussed the story of the 12 zodiac animals and how this year is the year of the ‘Tiger’. We made lanterns and our very own zodiac wheels to go home and share with our families. We looked at the meanings of the zodiac signs and how they related to our characters.
