W/E 2nd October

To celebrate Maths week Scotland the pupils have been involved in a variety of games and activities.

We received a lovely presentation prepared by one child, enjoyed using  numeracy to play Top Trumps and build different styles of aeroplanes, and tested our language of math playing games.

The children completed the Environmental Review on behalf of The Eco Committee. They discussed food sources and  waste minimisation with the lunch ladies, investigated energy consumption with the school janitor and explored the school and school grounds to research litter  and biodiversity and the remaining categories within the review. The pupils worked together co-operatively taking turns of reading the questions, recording their answers and discussing topics with each other and other members of the school team.

Pupils created mixed media artwork inspired by dinosaurs.

W/E 23rd Sept

This week the pupils have continued learning about the Solar system. They have had a class focus on homophones, in literacy and using practical resources to  aid numeracy work.

They have continued working on their co-operative learning and team building skills.

Many of the pupils also looked at materials and what would sink or float. They made a hypothesis and carried out an experiment to prove or disprove it!

As part of DYW and STEM skills we looked at the role of architects and engineers when designing a building. We looked at how to build solid foundations and the use of shape and maths when building.

The children then worked together using a variety of materials (Including spaghetti and marshmallows) to build the tallest towers they could, that would support themselves.

Presentations

Pupils created adverts for a toy of their choice, after “buying” it from the toy shop. They were encouraged to think about any special features this may have, the age range out would be suitable for, where it could be bought and for how much. They looked at a variety of posters and identified common themes and characteristics.

The pupils then produced a poster and presented it to the class. I was very impressed with catchy slogans and the use of percentages when offering a promotion on many of the toys!

W/C 7th September

This week we have a focus on money, calming strategies, teamwork and bubbles!

The children identified coins and created a variety of monetary amounts. They worked together to set up a Toy shop and role played being the shop keeper and customer. They used their play money to buy items and calculate change.

The children learned all about bubbles and how they are created and how that can use bubble breathing and other bubble themed methods to help them feel calm or alleviate anxiety and worries.

The Children learned how to use a Visualisation technique called “Bubble breathing” To help them when they feel anxious, upset, angry or stressed. They used bubble wrap to aid their fine motor skills and as a distressing strategy and they have looked at line, tone and shade to create some fantastic bubble themed artwork using chalk pastels.
