People’s Palace

Primary 2 visited the People’s Palace as part of their topic When Gran was a Girl. We took part in a timeline activity and explored how people lived in the past by visiting the laundry, shop, holiday  and single end displays in the museum. It was very interesting and we saw and handled lots of artefacts from the past.

We thought the People’s Palace was a lovely building and enjoyed exploring Glasgow Green after we had a picnic lunch. We saw a rower  and some ducks and geese on the River Clyde, met some police horses and then finally had a chance to play on the climbing frames and chutes. We had a great day! Thanks you to the parent and grandparent helpers who came along!

When Gran was a Girl Class Talks

We asked our grans and grandpas about life when they were boys and girls. We also interviewed Mrs Higgins about her life when she was a girl at school and at home. We then shared what we found out with the rest of our class during a talk we had prepared.

Everyone got the class to look closely at the objects and pictures we had brought in more closely during a walkabout talkabout  activity.

Abi’s grandpa even made a film watch it using this link

Gymnastics

Primary 2 took part in a block of gymnastics lessons. We were supported by Woodfarm High School sports coaches. We used a variety of equipment to practice our skills in balancing, rolling and climbing and we were all very proud of the progress we made.

Tartan Day

During Tartan Day in school we sang a song called The World must be coming to an end, with lots of actions and some people were role playing.

We made props and Scottish flags – Saltires – for the role playing in our song. We also worked in pairs to design our own tartans and wrote acrostic poems about Scotland. We have a great display which parents can see during Find Out More Day in February.

We also took part in some food handling activities. We made shortbread and oatcakes and also made our own butter from cream. They tasted delicious and we were even able to share our shortbread with our families!

Tesco Football Coaching

Primary 2 have been having football coaching sponsored by Tesco. Our coach, Tommy, says our behaviour and progress is very good. We are all trying very hard to listen to his instructions carefully.

These short video clips show some of our skills in action:

We are also very lucky to have some sports coaches from Woodfarm High school working with us every week in P.E.

Corey, Akash, Ross and Steven have been leading warm-up and football skills activities with us.

World of Work Week

Primary 2 had visits from a pharmacist,  a crew trainer at McDonalds, a chef from Trust Housing and a bank manager. We learned lots about the skills they needed in their jobs. We discovered listening is very important so we are all trying very hard with our own listening.

As part of our local area topic we walked to visit Trust housing and to see inside the bank. We have created a bank in our role play area in the classroom.

Primary 2 led the Harvest and Sukkot assembly. Everyone brought in lots of food which we are going to share with Trust Housing and a Local Food bank. We built a Sukkah and decorated it.

Our assembly went very well on Friday 7th October. We all remembered our words and spoke clearly, Mike and Alan came along and played the guitar and drums. We even got all our mums,  dads and grans singing and doing the actions!

We filmed our performance use the link to see our film.

Citrus Fruits

During Sukkot the Etrog, a citrus fruit which looks like a lemon is very important. We investigated citrus fruits pink grapefruit, orange, lemon and limes.  We looked at the inside of them and discovered they all had segments inside. We tasted them

The grapefruit was yum. Ahmed

The lemon was so sour. Jessica

The orange was sweet. Fatima

Visitor

Primary 2 had a visit from Mike Gargrieve, the minister at Thornliebank Church. He talked to us about harvest. Haris and Fatima took part in an activity which taught us about helping each other. Mike brought his guitar and we all sang a song. When Mike heard we were having a Harvest Assembly he said he could help us with our songs.102_0470 102_0471

Mike came back to our class with Alan to help us practise for our assembly songs. They play the guitar and drums very well. It helped our singing to be really good. Ahmed had a go with Mike’s guitar.
