Pupils compared Wayne Theibaund’s realistic paintings to that of the abstract artist Joan Miro. They were able to clearly descibe the difference. They blended oil pastles using tone to create mouth watering ice cream cones! Using lighter shade to highlight.  Anyone fancy strawberry or choc mint?

One point perspective lesson P5 and P6. Work in progress.

The pupils were encourage to look at lots of images showing one point perspective. They then followed step by step lesson using lots of lines disappearing into centre point. This creates a scaffold on which the pupils drawings will appear more realistic. Pupils are encouraged to sketch lightly so they can rub out lines when not required.

Self Portraits P5 and P6.

This a four step lesson. Pupils were encouraged to initially draw themselves as they think they look. Next they used the mirrors, looking carefully at their features, they used pen to create continuous line drawings. Step 3 was a formal step by step lesson, pupils were instructed to study the fractions of a face, they used the visual element of line to create formal self portrait.. Finally pupils used blended oil pastels and ink to create colour studies.

Primary 1 Joan Miro. An Introduction to Abstract Art.

P1 were introduced to abstract art through learning about the life and work of Joan Miro. They loved his quirky symbolism of  stars representing dreams,  little eyes shining into creatures souls and half crescent moons to be found in his works of art. Can you see such symbols in the pupils work? They began by looking at the elements of line, shape and eventually colour.
