Parent Council

What is the Parent Council?

A committee appointed by the Parent Forum to run matters on behalf of all parents/carers who have a child at the school – known as the Parent Forum. It is not run by the school or local authority, rather by the parents in the school.

What does the Parent Council do?

The main aim of the Parent Council is to help the school operate as a successful school and to try to represent all the parents/carers.

  • Improve links between all parents/carers and the school.
  • Ensure parents receive the information they need in an accessible way, and that school staff receives feedback on parents’ views.
  • Discuss issues of interest to parents, i.e. school policies.
  • Optimise parental involvement in their children’s learning.
  • Represent parents’ views to the education authority and others on issues that are a concern to parents, pupils and staff.
  • Be involved in recruitment of new senior staff.
  • Social and fundraising activities (NB: this is undertaken by a sub-committee called the Fundraising Committee)

What does the Parent Council not do?

Pursue issues regarding individual pupils or parents. These should be discussed with the Class Teacher or Head Teacher as appropriate.

When are Parent Council meetings?

Meetings are one per term and currently all meetings are virtual via Microsoft Teams. Dates can be found on the Facebook page, or in the Parent Council Newsletter.

Who attends the meetings?

Members of the Parent Council alongside the Head Teacher and senior leadership team. Pupils regularly attend the PC meeting to update members on initiatives within the school, accompanied by their Class Teacher. Non-Parent Council members are welcome to attend meetings but would be unable to vote as part of the meeting.

How can I contact the Parent Council?

Parents/carers can contact their year group representative with any issues they would like to raise either individually or through the class WhatsApp chats. You can email the secretary/chair at stclarespc@gmail.com or contact us via the Facebook Page
