September in P5c

Thank you for taking the time to read the September issue of the P5c learning blog. We hope you enjoy reading about all the fantastic learning we have undertaken over the past few weeks!

We have been learning various skills across different curricular areas. For example, with Mrs Rogers, we planned and designed our own unique LEGO portraits, using bold colours to attract attention.

During Writing lessons, we have been creating texts of different types, such as humorous rhyming poems and limericks, formal letters and sharing personal information about ourselves and our greatest achievements and challenges.

In Maths, we have covered a range of topics.

Members of the ‘Cubes’ group have recently been identifying 3D shapes and describing their properties.

Our ‘Spheres’ have been carrying out various number processes using function machines.

Our ‘Pyramids’ have been practising multiplication, addition and subtraction facts which are really important for developing mental agility.

During Mental Maths warm up sessions, we have used games like ‘Fizz Buzz’ and ‘True or False’ to test our knowledge of multiplication and division facts.

At the end of each week, we have enjoyed testing our understanding of spelling rules and mathematical processes during Assessment.

In RE, some of us have been busy preparing to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which we are very much looking forward to this Saturday! We have all learned about the Seven Sacraments available to followers of the Catholic faith. They are: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick.

In PE, we have been developing endurance, sportsmanship and object control in rugby, basketball and football activities.

In Outdoor Learning, we have loved exploring the ‘lower forest’ area. Some of the activities we have completed include:

·       Construction of 3D shapes

·       Construction of homes for insects and small animals

·       Muddy Faces

·       Creating symmetrical images

We really loved becoming ‘at one with nature’, making use of just the natural materials all around us to complete these challenges.

We are so excited for another month of fabulous learning! Please revisit our blog to find out about the new knowledge and skills we gain throughout October.

Thanks for reading!

February

Nearly the end of February already!? What a month. P4C have been enjoying learning all about Ancient Egpyt from hieroglyphics to King Tutankhamun’s reign to Cleopatra! With Fairtrade fortnight in full swing, we have been discussing fairtrade items, specifically chocolate and this links to our class novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ We have been involved in drama roleplays using the characters from the story and in our writing, we have created diary entries. We have looked at some famous artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Rennie Mackintosh and illustrator Quentin Blake! We recreated some of Quentin Blake’s art-work from the book. We have been taking part in a chocolate hunt each week, where the children hunt for chocolate bars…with a lucky few winning the golden tickets! We have also been learning about playscripts and short films.

We are looking forward to our learning assembly on Thursday 12th March to showcase our learning. See you soon!

Term 2..Happy New Year

P4C have had an EXCITING start to the term! Our novel this term is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and we are looking forward to taking part in reading circles. The class have decided on The Egyptians for their topic this term and are excited to take part in a variety of activities such as a Pharaoh drama and creating our own hieroglyphics. We have been practising mindfulness in the classroom and are enjoying taking part in a regular practice twice a week, allowing us the time and space to process our thoughts, focus on our breathing and feel refreshed to begin our work in class. We are excited to begin our Sacramental preparations for our Reconciliation and Holy Communion. We have spent some time discussing and writing our New Years Resolutions and look forward to what the rest of the term will bring….hopefully no more rain!

P.3c- Our Week

This week we have been busy making and designing Fantastic Mr Fox masks. We used lots of different materials and our masks were very colourful. We also included lots of very detailed patterns and designs.

We hope everyone in our class who celebrated Eid had a fabulous time. We have really enjoyed learning all about this important celebration. We have also been listening and learning all about Pentecost. We are going to look out for all the symbols of Pentecost at Mass this Sunday.

Next week, we will be taking part in our sports day and we can’t wait to go to Findlaystone on Friday. Let’s hope we have fantastic weather each day.

Measurement

Primary 3c have been busy this week measuring lots of different things using metres and centimetres. We measured our hand, finger, width of our shoe and width of our book. We also used our ruler to make an underwater picture and measured all the things we had included. We have loved all the wonderful sunny weather and we went outside to estimate and measure different distances.  This was great fun!

We are all very excited about visiting  Finlaystone Park. We hope we get a lovely day!

Fantastic Mr Fox

This week, we started our new topic called Fantastic Mr Fox. We looked at the colourful cover and discussed Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake. There were different covers on some of our books. We read a few chapters together and wrote about the diffent characters. We drew the three farmers and labelled their characteristics. The children in the story sang a rhyme which we have really enjoyed copying.

Boggis and Bunce and Bean

One fat ,one short, one lean.

These horrible crooks

So different in looks

Were none the less equally mean.

We’re really excited to find out what happens next. . . .

Primary 3c Technology

We made celtic roundhouses and celtic daggers to show our parents next week. To make the roundhouses, we used straw, card, glue, scissors and crayons. We had to remember to cut a small door and stick the straw on carefully. We used our knowledge of celtic art to decorate the top of our daggers. Then, we covered the daggers with foil. This was tricky so we used lots of glue to keep the foil in place. Primary 3c are all very excited to show all our wonderful celtic work.
