Gold Duke of Edinburgh is available to S5/6, priority is given to those progressing from Silver but a small amount of direct entry places are usually available each year. Due to the size of the commitment it usually takes both years to complete.
The cost of the award in 2023/24 will be £59.50 registration and £250 for the expedition.
All levels of the award see young people completing three sections in their own time. Click on each section below for a list of activity ideas.
These sections are completed on the online eDofe system. Young people are expected to spend roughly an hour on each section each week. They then upload a piece of text evidence describing the activities they took part in.
Once they meet the minimum requirements they have their section completed by an assessor, this can be anyone who is able to confirm their progress. It can however, not be any direct family member.
At St Ninian’s all participants are placed in their expedition groups (7 young people) at the start of the year. Every group is assigned a staff or young leader who will help them through the process.
Gold Expeditions usually take place during the summer and can be completed following either S5 or S6. More information can be found on the Gold Expeditions page.
As part of the Gold award young people are also tasked with arranging their own residential. This should be done with, at most, one person they already know.
