January

A new year, 2022. Primary 5a have enjoying getting back to school and back into the routine. Here is what we have to say about our learning in 2022 so far!

Inaaya H- We have been completing maths mosaics, I have enjoyed the Hulk one. We got new seats this term which is a nice change.

Alaiyna- I liked picking our new topic- we voted for USA! I also liked creating my Science title page for Food Webs.

Freya- I have really enjoyed seeing seeing what animals there are in America and what words they say different to us in Scotland. I really liked creating the Wayside School drama skit, this is because I liked picking the characters and it was really funny.

Inaaya K- I enjoyed learning about the differences between Scotland and the USA. I liked making the bug hotel in Forest too.

Mo- I enjoyed doing the Scottish Pop Art- we did a big bubble around a Scottish word. I chose the word Aye, and we coloured in tartan designs.

Lindsay- I enjoyed doing Science. Our new Science topic is Food Webs. I also created a drama performance with Alaiyna and Inaaya K and we showed it to our classmates.

Sophia- Food Webs are how animals eat, small animals are eaten by big animals. This is to get energy. I like doing drama lesson and how we got to choose our characters.

Venkata- I like matching the Scottish words to the English meanings. We can remember these words and learn about Scottish dialect.

Shahzain- I like learning about Litres and Millimetres, because it is fun and you have to convert them, multiplying and dividing my 1000.

Millie- I am enjoying the new Wayside School book. I liked doing the drama and acting out one of the chapters. I have also been making little book marks for my classmates.

Abby- I liked learning about the USA and comparing it to Scotland. Some words mean the same but they say different words.

Joshua- I liked doing drama. I enjoyed being the characters and I also enjoyed having to guess the expressions and emotions people were acting out. I also liked the Scottish Pop Art.

Ashlin- I liked drawing Robert Burns. We created a sketch using pencils and blending with out fingers.

Aatif- I liked doing the emotions in drama because it was fun. I also liked doing the Pop Art and Robert Burns drawing.

Matthew- I liked doing the Scottish Pop Art because I liked that we used lots of different colours and coloured in the bubble. I chose the word Bahookie!

Ibrahim- I liked the settings writing we did. We did an ocean, deserts, haunted place and a fairy tale one. We had to draw them and then write about them. I chose the Fairy tale one and made it a Candy land!

Rose- I like the ‘If I could change the world’ piece of writing. It was like the perfect world for you and things you would like to have. I was also a Star Writer. I liked the emotions drama we did because you had to guess what emotions people were acting out.

Adam- I really liked the outdoor learning, boat rafts. We needed to get rope and tie sticks together and use a paper clip as a passenger and see if our boat could sail in the river.

Zikora- I liked Other World Religions fortnight. We got to know about other peoples religions and learn about it.

Kene- I liked changing the group names. My groups name is the Jammie Dodgers.

Zayn- I liked changing the group names and I liked the Scottish Pop Art. My word is Eejit!

Thomas- I enjoyed looking at different jobs people work as and their salaries. It gave me a chance to think about what job I might want to be.

Mia- I liked learning the Scottish Poems, I chose Bus Queue.

Tobe- I liked drawing Robert Burns because it was a fun art piece to draw.

Daksh- I like doing the setting writing because it was really fun and you got to draw 4 different settings. I chose the desert one.

Orla- I like learning my Scottish poem. It was really fun and I learned Bus Queue.

Snigdha- I enjoyed the Scottish Pop Art because we had to colour the letters in tartan. I liked learning about Food Webs too.

Kasim- I also liked the Scottish Pop Art piece.

Leah- I love forest when we were building the boat. It was quite easy. We first off we found lots of sticks in the forest so it was easy to gather those.

December

We have made it to the end of term! We would like to share what we have enjoyed learning this month. Miss Hillhouse would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents for their support this term and wishes you and your family  a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Zikora- I like that we used co-ordinates to create pictures. We got to colour it in.

Rose- We learned how to make a comic strip. I liked the story and I liked drawing the picture linked to that part of the story and we got to draw lots of pictures.

Inaaya K- I liked the elf mosaic because our elf gave it to us, it was a mosaic of him!

Millie- I have enjoyed co-ordinates also, I found it a bit tricky becuase you don’t know what the shape is going to look like until the end.

Mo- We also had to find the points when using co-ordinates.

Inaaya H- Our class elf Cheeky Sneaky brought us a new mosaic, and it was a picture of him!

Orla- I liked doing the Christmas tree art because it was abstract art. I also liked the Grinch art because we used oil pastels.

Linday- We made The Grinch newspaper article. The article was about the story of how the Grinch stole Christmas.

Ibrahim- I enjoy summarising a text. We had to find the key points so you could read the whole chapter in a paragraph. I also liked learning about gold, frankincense and myrrh because I like fancy items.

Freya- I really liked doing the Grinch hand because we learned how to use texture to make it look realistic and make the bauble look shiny. I really liked the Grinch comic strip because you could tell the story in your own way.

Adam- I liked doing the Grinch comic strip.  We used illustrations to tell the story not just words.

Ashlin- I liked the advent calendar and how someone got to open it each day.

Daksh- I liked doing the abstract art because it was fun and you got to use different colours.

Venkata- I liked doing the co-ordinates and I’m excited to learn about the 4 grids and negative numbers. I also liked the Grinch hand art because we used oil pastels and I hadn’t used them much before and it makes it look really realistic.

Snigdha- I liked Cheeky Sneaky and that the class got to give him a name. He’s not been too cheeky so far!

Shahzain- I liked plotting points on the co-ordinates grid. I also liked the comic strip because it was fun to do and we had to create pictures along with the words.

Sophia- I liked doing the Christmas word search. I enjoyed having to find the words, it was tricky.

Kasim- I liked doing the Grinch hand with the oil pastels. I was kind of tricky but I got there.

Mia- I like doing the traffic lights, we had trays where we put our work in green, orange or red based on how confident we feel about that task. I also liked doing our Advent performance.

Leah- I love the mindfulness because it was relaxing and we used lots of colours and listened to the music.

Tobe- I like doing the abstract art, we had to use warm and cold colours.

Joshua- I liked watching the P3 Nativity performance because it was good and my little brother was in it.

Kene- I like filming our Advent service. I liked the hymns and solos.

Alaiyna- I like the advent calendar, everyday someone gets a treat.

Thomas- I like doing all the Grinch stuff. My favourite was the Grinch hand art.

Zayn- I enjoyed joining St Cadoc’s. It is different than my old school, that’s a good thing.

Aatif- I liked making the comic because I was good at it.

 

November

Below the children have stated what they have enjoyed/ learned/ experienced this month at school.

Tobe- I liked litter picking because we were helping the environment.

Adam- I also liked litter picking and I liked doing the quizzes on Newsround. We learned about NASA on Newsround.

Nicola- We made airplanes using a website called fold and fly, we got to throw them and measure how far they went. Also the Christmas Extravaganza because we had a snowball fight and we went on a big bouncy castle.

Matthew- The Christmas card competition because I liked getting to be creative and my design was Santa stuck in the chimney. When I was working with Mr Harkins for Numeracy I also learned length time’s breadth times height for maths.

Thomas- Christmas Extravaganza! My favourite part was the snowball fight!

Daksh- I enjoyed going on the bouncy castle because it enjoyed throwing snowballs at people.

Venkata- I like writing the Scottish Wars of independence battle story. It liked to our topic and I got star writer! I also enjoyed the Christmas Extravaganza- I love the reindeer.

Leah- I loved seeing the reindeer because I like reindeer.

Inaaya K- We did a Christmas card competition because if you won your card would be made into a real Christmas card. My design was a reindeer.

Millie- The Christmas Extravaganza- I liked the cards and the snowman soup we made for enterprise because we raised money for the school! It was St Andrew’s day and Mr McLaughlin played the bagpipes for the school.

Mia- I liked learning about pie charts because it’s a new way to display data.

Joshua- The Christmas card competition because we got to have fun drawing it. My design was a Guinea pig and Santa sleigh.

Sophia- Practising for the Christmas show. We have been practising our lines and learning songs! We also started two new mosaics for numeracy times table practice.

Ibrahim- Writing the letters to Santa clause because I’m looking forward to getting presents!

Inaaya H- I liked naming the elf because we got to vote and choose the name as a class- He’s called Cheeky Sneaky!

Ashlin- I liked the advent calendar, you get to choose a door from the Christmas village and each day a different person from the register opens the door and gets a sweet.

Alaiyna- My favourite part was the snowball fight and the reindeer.

Shahzain- I’ve enjoyed learning about area because I really like maths. We use the formula A=l x b and for triangles you half the formula! I also liked the science because we learned about the body and their functions.

Snigdha- I have been learning about fractions. I have found it good.

Kene- I liked moving onto angles in maths and learning about the different types of angles. There are obtuse, reflex angles, acute, right and straight angle.

Orla- We went to Mass, it was All Saints day. I enjoyed going to mass because we got communion again and it had been a long time since we got it at school.

Zikora- We learned about direct speech in Literacy. You have to use speech marks and you have say who said the speech.

Rose- We made a coat of arms, it was cool to see what different symbols stood for and to find one that represented East Ren.

Mo- I liked learning about angles. You have to work out which angle is which.

Aatif- We learning some new language in French, we learned colours and classroom instructions.

Freya- I really liked seeing the reindeer and how to multiply fractions.

Kasim- I liked making the aeroplane because I didn’t know how to before. It was a technology lesson with science.

October

Despite the week long holiday, October has been busy for Primary 5a! Check out what we have enjoyed learning about this month below:

Social Studies- Castles

‘I enjoyed the castles because we got to get creative and make it out of random parts and make all the castles features and details.’ Matthew

‘I liked getting to paint my castle at the end. We have also been doing a times tables challenge every Friday. I have done my 7 and 8 so far!’ Rose

‘I liked making my castle because I got to put the lego characters in, and it was fun making the portcullis. I used tooth picks and went round it with tin foil. I also like doing basketball in PE becuase it is fun when we get to do matches against each other.’ Joshua

‘I really liked painting my castle and cutting it out and drawing the bricks as well. I liked making the other parts for the castle. I used cardboard to make it.’ Daksh

Social Studies- COP26

‘We made giant Cop 26 posters in groups. We had to use the chromebooks to gather information and cut pieces of paper out to stick onto the poster to make it eye-catching. I also like doing science, learning about solids, liquids and gases. I also like doing the daily mile, we try and do it every day.’ Ibrahim

‘I learned what Cop26 stood for; conference of the parties. i also enjoy learning about perimeter in maths.’ Inaaya K

‘I learned that it is going to be hosted in Glasgow and the people from different countries are going to be there and they are going to try and make climate change better.’ Sophia

‘We have been making Cop26 posters in class. We have to be partnered in groups and work together to find information using the chromebooks.’ Orla

Writing

‘We have learning about poetry and we wrote Autumn poems and a witches poem. You had to put rhyming words at the end of each line.’ Abby

Art and Design

‘We also made a witches house. You had to make them creepy and scary and detailed. I also liked making the castles. You got to paint them and make them your own.’ Mia

‘We went to the forest and collected leaves to do an art piece. We made pictures out of the leaves, twigs and berries. I enjoyed making the picture.’ Leah

Numeracy

‘I like the maths mosaics and how it makes a picture at the end, its fun but you also have to do maths at the same time. I also enjoy doing basketball in PE because I go to a basketball club out of school so I feel confident.’ Mo

‘We had confession in the school with the priest. It was exciting. We have also been learning symmetry in Maths. I thought it was really fun because we got to colour.’ Millie

‘I have been learning about perimeter in maths. I have been finding it good.’ Ashlin

‘I enjoy drawing 3D shapes. We have to use isometric paper. It was creative! I also liked craxy hair day because I could be creative.’ Zikora

‘I enjoyed making shapes on the isometric paper. I’d never done that before. The first square was hard but then it got easier to draw 3D shapes.’ Kasim

‘We drew the 3d shapes and we coloured them. I am still working on mine.’ Lindsay

Committees and Trips

‘We have been doing committees. I liked it because I am on Eco and we got to do fun things. We went to the learning lodge and did posters and PowerPoints.’ Tobe

‘I liked going to the committees because we got to answer questions about our school and work as a team to answer them.’ Alaiyna

‘i liked doing Judo. We went to Parklands and did judo. I really liked it because it was fun, it was really entertaining for me.’ Inaaya H

‘I also do karate and I liked trying something new. It was more fun than I thought it would be.. In maths I also doing mosics especially the Stitch mosic because it turns out he is really cute!’ Venkata

‘The trip was so fun because it was a new sport and I’d never tried it before. The instructor made us put our arms under our partner to try and put them on their back.’ Adam

‘I liked crazy hair. I tied some things in my hair. I liked seeing everyone’s different hairdos.’ Kene

‘I am enjoying carving my pumpkin at home for the pumpkin parade. I am going to carve an H and a P for Harry Potter.’ Thomas

September

Primary 5 has been lots of fun so far! We are feeling settled and learning loads of new things. We have made new friends and gained lots more knowledge in the last few weeks- check out what we have to say below:

Numeracy-

Joshua- ‘I liked learning more about division. I liked learning more about it so I can get more practice. I also liked doing the shields in topic. We coloured them and gave clan names.’

Rose- ‘I liked learning about BODMAS because I didn’t know you had to do a calculation in order. i also love PE with Mr Harkins.’

Freya- ‘I’ve been learning the 4 times table which is fun. I am good at it! I also enjoyed making the name tags for the wall.’

Shahzain- ‘I like learning algebra because it helps me learn more about the steps of maths. BODMAS stands for brackets of division, multiplication, addition and subtraction.’

Literacy-

Venkata- ‘I like doing writing, especially the Autumn walk poem which rhymes. I also like to learn about our topic because I like to learn about the battles and how Scotland won.’

Mo- ‘I like doing the stories and how you can get creative with them. My magic potion is my favourite one so far.’

Inaaya K- ‘I liked writing the story of The Wish granter. We watched  a video with no words and then had to write the story with words.’

Adam- ‘Miss Hillhouse is reading the next Wayside school book to us and I love the new characters. I also like outdoor learning because the noise of the water is relaxing.’

Forest-

Orla- ‘I really enjoyed going on the Autumn walk. It was fun to walk to walk through nature, i felt very free and I could do my own thing.’

Snigdha- ‘We made mud faces in the forest. We had to pick up the mud and splat it on a tree. My face had grass as hair and sticks to make a necklace.’

Sophia- ‘I like exploring the forest. I like going in the water.’

Health and Well-being-

Nicola- ‘I like the cushions, they are really really comfy. We have the cushions for group points, we work hard for the cushions so we can get them to sit on. I’m in the gummy bears.’

Millie- ‘We cycled to India to raise money. It was really fun and it more about yourself and how much you could cycle. We also finished the Wayside school is falling down book. It was really funny and there was lots of different characters involved.’

Ibrahim- ‘We watch newsround everyday. It tells you all about the news in one short clip. The footage that we see is interesting.’

Inaaya H- ‘I like mindfulness because it is a good way to get all the hard stuff out of your head. We can find out own mindfulness spots in the classroom to relax.’

Zikora- ‘I like going to the forest to express how I feel and explore nature. I also enjoyed having St Cadoc’s day. We had church in the classroom.’

French-

Alaiyna- ‘I’ve enjoyed learning the French numbers. It’s becoming easy.’

Art and Music-

Thomas- ‘I liked drawing the landscape because it was so colourful. Mine is on the wall outside!’

Ashlin- ‘I liked making the puzzle pieces because you could tell people that you are unique thought artwork.’

Tobe- ‘I enjoyed drawing Spongebob it was really fun!’

Matthew- ‘We made name tags. They are to show what our best work is in the classroom.’

Social Studies and ICT-

Kene- ‘I liked learning about King Alexander and how the new King of Scotland was chosen.’

Mia- ‘I love doing the sumdog and maths games.’

Daksh- ‘i really liked the quest we did, William Wallace challenged us to find out about his life. I also really like art moscis, they were a more fun way to do maths and it form a character in the end.’

RE-

Abby- ‘I like doing the crosses. We had to cut the cross out of paper and use tissue paper. Then we put it in a laminator to make it look like a stained glass window. It was really fun and relaxing.’

Leah- ‘I like learning about the Saints. Just now we are learning about the disciples just now.’

August 2021- Back to School!

Already we have made a great start in Primary 5! We have a new teacher and new pupils in our class. Our classes last year merged to form P5a but we are loving our new class mates and starting to feel like a little family already!

Our favourite things about being in Primary 5 so far have been:

‘I enjoyed writing my magic potion. It had bat fang in it and octopus tentacles. I enjoyed this because i was an imaginative story and you can basically write anything in you potion and you can use bossy verbs.’ – Adam

‘I liked the magic potion as well. You could be really creative. I put in a phoenix head and 15 fireflies.’ Mo

‘I have liked writing the stories because we could be really imaginative and we could write anything we wanted.’ Matthew

‘I liked learning about the Scottish wars of Independence because it is interesting and learned lots.’ Joshua

‘I love the wayside school is falling down book that Miss Hillhouse is reading to us. I like the part with the mushroom surprise because it was really funny.’ Daksh

‘We are in groups and we have to gather group points. Its fun because you have to rely on the people in your group. And also group of the week gets the cushions.’ Millie

‘I’ve enjoyed colouring Spiderman. You need to work out the multiplication questions to know what colours to use.’ Sophia

‘I liked PE. I liked doing rugby because it was really fun and we worked in a team and its a fun game to play.’ Orla

‘I liked meeting all the new people who started St Cadoc’s. I helped show them around.’ Thomas

‘I liked writing about the box. In my story the box sucked me in and i ended up in a computer!’ Rose

‘I like doing RE. We made a comic strip about how God created the world. Mia

‘I enjoy getting to see my friends again now we’re back at school.’ Nicola

‘I liked doing PE with Mr Harkins, he always plans it to be so fun and we play ultimate Frisbee.’ Venkata

‘Science with Mr Morrison is good because we learnt about different scientists. We also learned new prayers for before and after lunch now we are in the upper school.’ Freya

‘I liked learning the new prayers because we got to draw pictures in our RE jotters.’ Ashlin

‘I enjoy Newsround its more fun that watching the actual news. It tell you  a lot of things in a short clip.’ Ibrahim

‘I enjoy being with my friends as they support me and they’re really fun to play with.’ Shahzain

‘I like seeing my friends again.’ Abby

‘I like wayside school because it is funny and I liked the chapter about Leslie’s pigtails.’ Leah

‘I like that the classes were changed because people get to talk to other people and make friends with them. Also I talk to the P4’s more now.’ Kene

‘I like having a new teacher because she’s really nice.’ Snigdha

‘I like the playground because it has more stuff in it than my old school. It has been fun making new friends.’ Kasim

‘I have enjoyed wayside school. My favourite chapter was about the socks because it was funny.’ Tobe

‘I like doing PE because I like doing rugby and the stealing game.’ Inaaya K
