Maths
During Maths, we have been doing decimals, rounding and 3D shapes. Currently, the Circles group are focusing on decimal division and multiplication (by 10, 100 and 1000); the Squares group are focusing on volume, and the Triangles group are focusing on multiplication. The entire class have been practising our multiplication by playing lots of games. We have also been practising our problem solving skills by playing Killer 11. The rules are that you can say 1-3 numbers and you can’t say the same amount of numbers that the person before you said.
Literacy (Writing)
We have had various different focuses for our writing lessons recently. We really enjoyed carrying out a Science experiment to test water pressure and writing a report to summarise our findings. It was so much fun! We also used the Chromebooks to research famous landmarks in Australia and used our research to create tourist information leaflets. It was so interesting learning about some of the exciting destinations!
Science
For Science, we made a structure made out of 20 pieces of uncooked spaghetti and some masking tape, then we put a marshmallow on the top. We did this because it was STEM aka Science Technology Engineering Maths, we also had a 15-minute timer and it was tremendously fun! We are also looking at Reachout Reporter and having the chance to take on the role of scientists!
Social Studies (Australia)
For Social Studies, we made a tourist leaflet that included many fascinating, cool landmarks that are in Australia and we used persuasive language and interesting facts about these landmarks. Like the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Great Barrier Reef.
Unfortunately, for some people, we learnt about Australia’s top ten most deadly spiders which were exceptionally disgusting: the top 10 most deadly spiders are listed below:
1.The Sydney funnel-web spider – This spider can kill you when it bites you as it is fatal and you can get high blood pressure.
- Redback Spider – You could get muscle weakness and loss of co-ordination which is extremely dangerous.

Mouse spider – You could get profuse sweating, abdominal pain and breathing difficulty.

Fiddleback/Recluse spider – You could get your limbs amputated in the most serious cases.

Australian Tarantula – You could vomit for 6 hours (not constantly).

White-tailed spider – You could swell and there is an excruciatingly painful bite.

Blackhouse spider – There will be and excruciatingly painful bite and sweating.

Sydney Brown Trapdoor spider – There is a painful bite.

Huntsman spider – You will get an irregular pulse and swelling.

Common Garden Orb Weaver spider – You will get local pain depending on where you get bit and swelling.
Outdoor Learning
We are still absolutely loving Outdoor Learning! We have had a little break from the forest over the last 2 or 3 weeks because we have been taking part in Beat the Street instead! We have loved walking different routes and getting to see a bit of our local community. One week, Michael’s Mum even brought their dog, Roxi, along to help! We have also been working on our Literacy and Maths skills. One week, we completed a 2D shape hunt, which was very competitive, and another week, we worked in teams to create poems. We used the format ‘number-adjective-alliteration-noun’ e.g. ‘six super slippery slugs’ and observed things around us for inspiration. We then wrote our poems on the playground using coloured chalk. During the week leading up to Halloween, we have been using our Outdoor Learning time to learn the dance to Michael Jackson’s famous Thriller! This has been a lot of fun and we hope to perform it for some other children at the Halloween parade on Friday! Wish us luck!

We had a lovely enrolment Mass in our classroom with Canon Eddie last week to mark the beginning of our Pope Francis Faith Award journey. We have already started looking at the first gift (Knowledge) and discussed some of the ways which we can use this gift in our daily lives. We also learned about Pope Francis himself and looked at his Coat of Arms.
