Art

In art this year we have been learning how to sketch. We have learned that we need to us the pencil lightly first, so if we need to rub it out it won’t leave marks on our page. It doesn’t need to be too accurate at first because you can always go back and change it, and add more detail. We learned about shading- light shading and dark shading, and we can smudge the pencil to create a gradient effect. We created a pencil shading piece called ‘The Titanic’. We used different shapes to create our shading, such as lines, checks and swirls. We also used texture in our shading when we created ‘Rabbit Still Life’ pieces.

We have also been learning about Pop Art. The main artists we have been studying have been Andy Warhol and Picasso. In Pop Art you use a lot of colour to make your work stand out and grab peoples attention. Andy Warhol was a very eccentric character, for example he liked to visit laundrettes so he could observe people and he liked the smells. He also made a video of himself eating a hamburger and called it art! He was very famous and he wanted to show everyone no matter how rich or important they were everyone could love and buy art. We created a ‘Coca Cola Bottle’ art piece. We used tracing paper to outline the cola bottle and then used it to create 4 identical images. We made our background contrasting, bold eye-catching colours. We used block colours as this is what Andy Warhol did.
