SGN ‘Future Thinkers’

Are you interested in a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and would relish the opportunity to give input into a major company?

If yes, then we wanted to make you aware of an exciting opportunity for students to join a ‘Future Thinkers’ youth panel we are setting up.

We at Solutions for the Planet are working in partnership with SGN who manage the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across all of Scotland and parts of Southern England (www.sgn.co.uk) to form  youth panel. The ‘Future Thinkers’ panel will give the students involved a unique opportunity to kickstart a career in the world of business by working with a major energy industry utility company.

The ’Future Thinkers’ panel will ensure that SGN’s future customers have an ongoing influential voice into their business decision making across their customers’ top priorities of:

  1. Acting safely
  2. Minimising environmental impact
  3. Delivering future energy solutions

The ‘Future Thinkers’ panellists will have a real influence on the decisions made by senior management as well as:

  • increasing knowledge on the workings of a major business
  • receiving a formal reference for use in UCAS or apprenticeship applications
  • accessing unique opportunities such as going behind-the-scenes or interviewing a member of staff.
  • developing skills such as critical thinking, research, networking, teamwork and building consensus.

We are looking to recruit panellists who:

  • are thinking about a career in a business setting; perhaps in the energy sector, or as an engineer, a product developer, in a financial or customer service role, or even would-be entrepreneurs who plan to run their own business one day.
  • enjoy getting their point across, take an active part in class discussions and debates and are good at problem-solving.
  • are good team players – both good listeners as well as good talkers!

Initially, the Panel will be made up of around 15 young people, who will meet (virtually) with SGN staff over four sessions to learn about different aspects of the business to discuss and give feedback on aspects of their emerging strategies. We are looking for young people from a range of backgrounds across the areas that SGN operate.  So, if you know any young people aged 14-16 who are passionate about how we can make energy greener, creating opportunities for talented young people from diverse backgrounds, STEM subjects, and would be interested in working with us to make change happen, please encourage these students to apply.

For further information and to request an application please contact Claire Fitton in the first instance by emailing claire@solutionsfortheplanet.co.uk

Closing date for entering is 13th November 2020
