‘Gnome Homes’

Outdoor Classroom Day brought sunshine and new homes for the mini-beasts of Our Lady of the Missions. P2 & e collected items to make their gnome homes a welcoming space for any mini-beasts looking for a new place to explore.

We then placed them under trees and in bushes in the outdoor classroom and the playground. We will check on them over the next couple of days to see who has moved in!

Germ Science

P2e have become ‘Health Detectives’ this term. This week we investigated how easily germs can spread using glitter! It was messy business, but it meant we could see clearly where our ‘germs’ were landing. We chatted to our shoulder partners and discussed where we find germs and what they do…

You find them on the floor and outside, but you can’t see them.” -Eva

They are all over the toilets, you should never take food in there!” -Christian

If you don’t wash your hands, they can get into your tummy and make you sick.” -Boaz

We started off with one ‘germy hand’ and predicted how far the germs would travel as we shook hands round the circle. The germs travelled a long way!

We then looked at how to best remove the germs.

First we tried paper towels, but the germs were just too stubborn! Everyone then washed their hands, some with just water, some with soapy water. Can you guess which way was the most effective?

Our conclusion was; to stop the spread of germs we need to wash our hands regularly using soapy water (cold or hot, it didn’t seem to make a difference in our experiment!) after being outside or using the bathroom, after touching animals or pets, after coughing or sneezing and before we sit down to eat.

Ask us what we now know about germs and how to get rid of them!

P2e Lenten Assembly

Last Friday, P2e performed a wonderful Lenten Assembly for their parents and carers and for the children in the infant department. They shared a story about a boy who had to be patient and still, and wait for something good to happen. They reminded us that Lent is a time for praying, almsgiving and forgiveness as we remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us while in the desert.

The spoke about what sorts of things they were giving up for Lent as well as the things they were going to try to do more of; like tidy their room, play with their siblings more, or help their parents around the house.
