Rivers

As part of our learning about Rivers we created salt dough and moulded a mountain and a river.  We labelled each of the key features.  Once the dough dried we painted it to represent the wonderful landscaped we have in Scotland. Finally we tested the rivers by adding some water and watching the water flow through our river.

Week ending 22nd November

This week was the start of our new time table!  We started Forest School on Monday and art lessons Wednesday!!

We wrapped up warm and had fun playing in the forest.  We will be starting our ‘Make our Mark’ signature learning experiences next time.

On Tuesday, we got to test out our rivers!  We enjoyed watching the water dribble down the source creating waterfalls and rapid rivers then meandering through the course of the river some times flooding over to the flood plains and finishing down at the mouth of the river.  See separate post for more info.

This week was also Book Week Scotland, we brought in our favourite book and got to share them with our class.  We created super summaries and also created a super poster for the school competition!

We enjoyed art with Mrs McIntyre and spending time in the STEAM room.  We started our first piece of art by sketching our character.

Friday was St Cecilia’s Feast day, we learned that she is the Patron Saint of Music and Musicians and to celebrate we got to make our own song about being in p5!  Here are some of the songs!

Its been a very busy week!!

Next Friday (the 29th) is our Christmas Fair and P5 will hosting a stall.  If anyone wants to help man the stall for a short time please come and join us!!

Taekwondo Taster Session

We had a taster session of  Taekwondo on Wednesday. Everyone displayed excellent listening skills to our visitor and loved the opportunity to safely punch and kick the pads.

Thank you Mr Dillon for giving us such a wonderful workshop!

Week ending 15.11.24

What a fun messy day P5 had making salt dough to construct models of a river journeys.

They worked in small groups measuring and binding the ingredients to create the dough. Then the shaped and moulded their dough to create river features such as the river source, the raging rapids, the twist and turns of meander and the river mouth.

As a team they added texture and detail to add to their overall designs.

Superb P5! Can’t wait to see the finished results.

To mark Anti-bullying week, the Equalities group also led a workshop where all of P5 worked together to talk about the physical, mental and emotional impacts of bullying.

Hi,

This week we took part in a live lesson with a scientist who studies Air Pollution for his job.  We submitted 3 questions to the Science Centre and 2 of our questions got used!

On Wednesday we saw Cookie swim around his tank!  It was amazing to see.

On Friday during Outdoor Learning we worked with our DLL groups to act out our story using the Loose Parts.  It was great to see and everyone was very creative.   Seth was very creative as the Tinman using leaves as rust!

We have been learning about rivers this week and plotted the journey from the Craigie to the River Clyde.

This week we have been learning about Air Pollution and creating terrariums.  We also created a new cityscape imagining what our city would look like with cleaner air!!

We have moved onto a new genre in writing…Information Writing!  Which starts with a title, then you have a general statement to introduces the macro then finally you need 3 micros in separate paragraphs.  Ask us at home what this means!

In maths, we were learning about a Scottish mathematician called John Napier and also learning about different number systems.  We focussed on Roman Numerals!

Today we visited the Science Centre.  We had a great time exploring all 3 levels before going to watch a 3D film in the IMAX cinema called ‘Our Wonderful Planet’.

Our Future Air!

We created terrariums today to demonstrate how plants maintain good air quality. We look forward to watching our eco-system thrive!

We also reflected on the impact of transport on air quality and made suggestions of things we could do to improve it in our area.

We are looking forward to our visit to the Science Centre on Friday.

Week ending 10th October

This week we were learning about pollution we made Air Pollution catchers to see how much air pollution there was in the school.

In drama, we were making tv adverts to advertise how good the Dams to Darnley Country Park is. Speaking of Dams to Darnley we then wrote a description of Dams to Darnley in our writing lesson later that week.  On Monday we did a numeracy assessment to finish the Place Value and Mental Calculation block we have been working on.  We had music with Mrs Carey and we played a game where we had to sing and pass the sticks around in time with the beat.  We had to focus to keep the rhythm, sing and pass the sticks along and be ready to receive the new stick.
