Patterns

Pattern, patterns, lots and lots of patterns!

We made pattern-pillars!

We tried to make lots of patterns with shape, cubes, colours.

We painted Cheerios  to make patterns.

Numeracy Time

The Triangles are working on subtraction! We moved onto writing calculations. Really we are focusing on ways we can subtract – using fingers/crossing out/cubes/number lines. We will continue to do this because it is quite tricky!

Ryan and Corey chose in their free play to try and order numbers to 10 and make that many elephants!

Alfie, Steven, Anas, Kieva and Caroline were recognising numbers and putting the amount in the correct column. We then challenged Alfie and Steven to do it again with the same colours.

Lilja in her free play made a number line! Well done.

Numeracy time

The triangles, squares and some circles were looking at addition up to 10 and 20! We used the numicon dots to help us.

Mrs Sannino worked with the squares and circles: she was so proud of how well they were working and how hard they tried! (Sorry Mrs Sannino didn’t have the iPad with her!)

Miss Gemmell worked with the triangles and they all did so well! They all loved using the numicon to visualise and play with their calculations.

We are going to continue practising numbers up to 20 as we were getting a bit muddled up with the number 11 and 12, lots of new learning came from this. Well done everyone.

Amazing creators

In Primary 1 there are lots of opportunities for the children to show how creative and imaginative they are. Here are some of the amazing creations.

Joey, Shay & Laughlin made a castle! The boys then went on to make the castle bigger than them. They got lots of their friends over to see if they were bigger or smaller than the castle. A great way to practise their measurement skills.

Mohammed Almeer worked really hard to create a tunnel! He could fit things inside his tunnel without it falling.

Laughlin made a L- that is the first letter of his name!

Joey was hammering some wood to help make a tower with his friends!

Zara was trying to create a tall tower and a house out of the blocks.

Neil created a bridge. He was trying to balance a piece of wood on the round block. He had to make sure it was sitting in the middle so the block didn’t fall. Great thinking!

Jack loves to make letters with the connecting blocks. This week he made one of our sight words ‘I’ and afterwards went on to create ‘H’, ‘J’, ‘L’ and ‘T’.

During Maths Week we challenged the boys and girls to make cars or something with wheels with KNEX. This was the first time we had used KNEX in class. It is quite tricky and they managed to make some amazing things. Here is Lorena, Lilja and Thalia with their creations.

Neil then went on to create a virus catcher.

Jack created a ‘H’.

We all had so much fun playing with KNEX.

We have been exploring 3D shapes, there are available for the children during maths time to play with. Here is Ivy with a tower made up of cubes, cuboid and a cone! Zara was trying to make one bigger than Ivy’s tower.

Corey and Alfie tried to make a super long snake. They made it half way across the classroom. It was HUGE. They then went on to make smaller snakes to compare sizes to see which one was bigger.

Numeracy time

What an amazing week we have had learning about our numbers.

We went on a number hunt… we caught lots of big ones! We had so much fun. We hunted for numbers 0-10 using our number magnifying glasses. We looked for the numbers, pictures of the number, the number in dots, and objects that have that amount! Well done boys and girls you were amazing at identifying the numbers.

We have also been working really hard with our addition! Addition can be tricky but it’s no challenge for P1b. The foxes and mice have been exploring     Addition with numbers, different shapes, objects and pictures. Well done boys and girls!

We have also been exploring maths and numeracy in lots of different ways through play. Fantastic learning everyone.

Monday activities!

Primary 1b have been so busy this morning! We loved learning about the ‘p’ sound…

Then we had lots of fun learning how to write the number 6 and practicing counting and ordering numbers!

Well done Primary 1!

Please check our homework folders for our sounds and words to practice this week. There are also letters in them to let you know that our toothbrushing program begins this week so we will be brushing our teeth after lunch every day starting tomorrow.

Thank you for your support!

Friday in Primary 1

Today was a great end to a very busy week! We started our morning with learning the properties of 2D shapes and enjoyed lots of fun shape activities!

After playtime we completed our first piece of writing! We shared all of the different things that make us happy – lots of us felt happy about going to the beach and spending time with our families, some of us felt happy playing with glitter and being in ball pits and some of us felt happy when we got to play with our friends. We discussed what our face would look like when we were happy and used the mirrors and playdough to make some lovely smiles! We also had some time to practice our alphabet!

We finished a very busy day with some science where we were learning all about day and night and we also had the chance to spend some time with Bookbug!

Well done everybody!
