Reading and Learning buddies

This week we started up our learning buddies! Everyday we read to each other during meditation time. The hope is that it will increase their ability to read their sight words. We ask them to choose a word their buddy taught them.

Some boys and girls are working on reading independently so this really gives them some confidence to do so!

Letter formation

Look at these amazing letters! The Owls were working so hard practising their letters s, a, t, i and p! Here are some of their beautiful handwriting.

A witches house

A witches house is now in P1b!!

We made potions using lots of different spooky materials with potion vials and cauldrons. We also went on an ingredients hunt using the trick or treat buckets.

With this we were making recipes for nice potions that can help us like invisibility. Steven was making one to make him super fast!

We challenged ourselves to write the words of their ingredients using the cards as well as the pictures. This was super tricky so well done everyone who tried their very best! We have lots of amazing potions that we will put on our wall.

Stay tuned for lots of fun the witches and wizards will be having throughout the next few weeks.

Miss Gemmell’s iPad died so we didn’t manage to get photos of all the children. There will be lots more to come! 🙂

Writing

Primary 1 continued their writing this week by talking about waving! We thought about times that we would wave and shared them with our friends. We looked at our hands when we wave and we talked about what they look like. Then we drew pictures for our stories and Mrs Robertson helped us write about them!

Taking our learning outside

Primary 1b took their learning outside this morning! We had lots of fun writing our sounds and our names with the chalk and we worked on  our gross motor skills by playing running games and having a go with the hula hoops!

We also got working on the ‘n’ sound today!

Monday activities!

Primary 1b have been so busy this morning! We loved learning about the ‘p’ sound…

Then we had lots of fun learning how to write the number 6 and practicing counting and ordering numbers!

Well done Primary 1!

Please check our homework folders for our sounds and words to practice this week. There are also letters in them to let you know that our toothbrushing program begins this week so we will be brushing our teeth after lunch every day starting tomorrow.

Thank you for your support!

Friday in Primary 1

Today was a great end to a very busy week! We started our morning with learning the properties of 2D shapes and enjoyed lots of fun shape activities!

After playtime we completed our first piece of writing! We shared all of the different things that make us happy – lots of us felt happy about going to the beach and spending time with our families, some of us felt happy playing with glitter and being in ball pits and some of us felt happy when we got to play with our friends. We discussed what our face would look like when we were happy and used the mirrors and playdough to make some lovely smiles! We also had some time to practice our alphabet!

We finished a very busy day with some science where we were learning all about day and night and we also had the chance to spend some time with Bookbug!

Well done everybody!
