WB 18th March

On Monday we did maths straight after break. In our maths lesson we were learning how to calculate the duration of thing using the chunking method. After lunch we did topic and it was really fun!  We created out Refugee Welcome Packs.

When we got in on Tuesday we did PE with Mr Farrell we did running,  jumping and throwing. The first line was 10 points, second line was 20 points and the last line was 50 points. Whoever got the beanbag outside of the MUGA got 100 points.

On Wednesday, we had Assembly first thing in the morning. P4B were talking  about litter and how we should stop because the wind will blow it into the sewers and it will affect the sea fishes.

When it was Thursday we wrote letters to refugees and put them into the refugee bags. We were then supposed to walk around the MUGA 15 times for SCIAF but it was too rainy so we could not.

On Friday we planted sunflowers for our class novel because at the start of the book they planted flowers! We are going to watch them grow in class then take them home to continue watching them.  Then we read “The Boy At The Back Of The Class” which was written by Onjali Q. Rauf.  We are so close to finishing the book.

WB 11th March

This week our main focus is time with STEM because it is British Stem Week.  We had a visitor who is a doctor.  She told us about her job and how she has to manage her time to ensure that the patients get the care they need on time.

On Monday, we researched and drafted our Diversity Champion fact files after  STEM filled morning.

On Tuesday, in the morning we did PE for PE  we had a bike obstacle course.  There were ramps , balance beams and seesaws .

We had a workshop with the STEM leaders.  They taught us how to make cars out of lollipop sticks and plastic lids and we timed them rolling down a ramp.  We then used a formula to work out the speed the car travelled.

On Thursday we used the Microbits during technologies.

On Friday we practiced for our Learning Assembly and took part in Live STEM workshop where we learned about an underground lab.

We have brought our jotters home today to show our families at home.  We must bring them back to school on Monday

WB 4.3.24

We are still collecting donations for our welcome pack projects for Refuweegee.  We have 1 more week to go before we can start to make packs.

We started a new block of PE lessons with Mr Farrel again.  This time our focus is on Athletics.  We had to time ourselves doing a 20m sprint.  We then divided the time by 20 to calculate the speed we ran at.

On Wednesday  we had assembly and Anas and Jessie had to do a speech.

Thursday was World Book Day and we took part in a live football and book themed quiz.  After lunch we have a Book Blether with Primary 4b.

On Friday we walked to the Barrhead Foundry to collect our World Book Day free books!!  When we got back to school we got to read them and then take part in a World Book Day Treasure Hunt organised by Mrs Farren.

WB 26th February

James and Lacy announced our appeal to the whole school this week during assembly.   We are collecting pre loved toys and games to create welcome packs for refugee children who arrive in Scotland.  We are collecting for 2 weeks.

Our exposition writing was linked to our appeal as our writing was to persuade others to donate to our appeal.  We created posters on Canva and these letters and posters are displayed around the school.

In maths we finished our unit of measurement by exploring capacity.   We got to make an guess / estimates then accurately measure the volume of the water or liquid in the  bottles.   We then moved in to reading and writing decimal fractions!

During PE this week we worked with p2 to explore the loose parts outdoors making a variety of games, marble runs and obstacle courses.  On Friday, we had a game of rounders with P5A!

Father Joe came into p5  and we made our confessions before going to our mass  on Friday morning.  After mass on Friday we stayed to pray the Stations of the Cross we were happy with ourselves we all joined in and all prayed we also got the Eucharist.  🙂

WB 19.2.34

This week in P5b we were continuing our class novel called “The Boy At The Back Of The Class”. We managed to finish Chapter 13 and we will be starting Chapter 14.

We also started French after a while, we decided to revise French colours as we were trying to describe our partner in French. We described our hair, eye colour and skin with knowledge of our body parts in French we could say eyes and hair in French.

We had art after a while as well and we learned about Sarah Kwan, she is a great artist. We learned that she was from China but grew up in Scotland and felt Scottish. This inspired us to make our own drawing combining two different cultures. We had to combine Scotland with our own culture or a culture that we are interested in.

We had a very busy week in P5b and it was very fun!

Lunar New Year

P5 had a great time learning about Lunar New Year from our classmate.  The children then created their own red lantern and decorated it to make it as bright and beautiful as possible!   We will decorate our class with the lanterns to bring luck and good wealth!!

WB Wed 14th Feb


Even though this week has been very short we have done a lot of things.

On Wednesday we had an Ash Wednesday service and most of us got our ashes.

On Thursday we learnt a new type of writing called exposition writing , for music on that day we learnt a new rhythm that was very fun to learn .  In  our Technologies lesson with Mrs Guy we got to explore the programme Canva.  We used it to create a new front cover for our class novel ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’.

Today for PE we were continuing with our striking and fielding lessons and before lunch we made an orange heart to say that everyone is welcome .

WB 5th Feb Week 23

Languages Week Scotland:

The children enjoyed creating a multi-lingual colouring in book to celebrate Languages Week Scotland.  Pupils decided which country they wanted to focus on.  They researched the country making notes of interesting facts before creating the colouring in page sharing some famous landmarks from the country, the flag and including  some basic greetings in bubble writing too.
We are looking forward to sharing the finished book with the children in p3 and hope that learn about different countries and cultures from our book!!

Topic:

We have used all the information we have learned about ourselves from our discussions with parents at home and from our shoulder partner interviews  to create an ‘All About Me’ fact file.  We can identify and celebrate that we are all unique and that’s it’s ok to be different.

We have really enjoyed learning about different cultures and religions from our fabulous visitors.  Thank you so much for giving up your time and sharing with us what it was like to like somewhere else and share your culture and beliefs with us.

 

Parent Visitor

Thank you very much to Fatima who joined us in school today to talk about growing up in Pakistan and what it was like to move to Scotland.
The children asked lots of respectful questions and enjoyed listening to Fatima talk about the animals that you would find in Pakistan, the food you would eat and also enjoyed learning about the traditional jewellery you could wear on special occasions.

We were delighted to hear that there is a large community of people who speak Sindhi in Scotland and that there is a celebration that takes place on the first Sunday in November called the Sindhi Cultural Day.  Fatima explained that there is a special pattern worn as a symbol of pride and respect and to show honour called the ajrak.  This would be presented to important people and worn during award ceremonies.  The material is red or marron and has block pattern on it with dots and lines.  Fatima showed us a beautiful  sindhi cap  that the men would wear and explained that ladies would wear a scarf or shawl with the Ajrak pattern on it too.  On Sindhi Cultural day this year Mohammed Almeer and his family all dressed up in the traditional clothes with the ajrax pattern.

We really enjoyed learning about Fatima’s different life stories and experiences.
